Group Sizes

How big are the group sizes at Road Scholar?

One size doesn’t fit all, and that’s why we offer multiple group sizes for different experiences and budgets. Our program development experts determine the perfect size for each program experience based on the destination, educational content and cost. If it’s a large group program, we’ve determined when and where groups should be broken up for the optimal experience. Some participants prefer smaller groups for a more intimate experience, while others might look for a bigger group if it offers access to a special event, lecturer or accommodation. Our range of group size options is part of our unmatched breadth of programming — so you can find the right group size for you.

Micro Group programs are our smallest with a maximum of 12 participants.See our full collection of Micro Group programs here 

Small Group programs have a maximum of 24 participants. Find Small Group adventures here

Our Medium Sized groups typically range from 25-40 participants. 

Our large group programs—usually based around ships, festivals, popular lecture topics or other special events—range from 41 all the way up to several hundred participants. Depending on the nature of the program, participants may be broken into smaller groups for portions of the program. Please review the General Notes on the Program Overview page for these large group programs for more specific information about group size and configuration.

These programs offer different group sizes (Small/Medium or Small/Micro) on different departure dates, providing you with the opportunity to determine which group size works best for you. When enrolling in one of these programs, please review the Dates and Prices Tab to ensure you are signing up for a departure with the group size you’d like.
