Join classical archaeologist and art historian Nick Stavrinides for the final lecture in this three-part series exploring the eastern Aegean islands of Greece. In this lecture, we turn to the island of Samos, birthplace of the mathematician Pythagoras and renowned in antiquity for its feats of engineering. The island also gained fame in 32 BCE when Cleopatra and Marc Antony chose it as their retreat for a celebrated tryst. Their passion scandalized Rome, unsettled empires and ultimately changed the course of history.
