When you first sign up, you only have to put down a low deposit to secure your space. For many of our learning adventures, the deposit is just $100 for programs in North America and $250 for International and Adventures Afloat programs.

Want to change your mind? You’ll find our policies give you a lot of flexibility. For example, for most of our North America programs, you can transfer to another program 14 days before your originally scheduled departure date at no cost for many programs. For most International programs, you can switch 67 days prior to departure with no fee. Be sure to read the transfer and cancel conditions before you enroll to understand your options.

Included at no extra cost is our Assurance Plan, which provides 24-hour assistance in the event of an emergency and insurance for emergency medical evacuation. The plan also includes insurance for lost or damaged baggage and medical coverage for accidental injury or sickness if you’re overseas.

Want more peace of mind? Purchase the optional Road Scholar Trip Protection Plan, which includes “Cancel for Any Reason” and quarantine coverage. The plan provides financial protection in case of program cancellation, interruption or travel delay. It also provides limited coverage for expenses you may incur in the rare case you are required to quarantine. Your airfare is also covered, whether you purchase it through Road Scholar or independently — an exceptional benefit and value offered exclusively to Road Scholar participants. Plus, if Road Scholar must cancel your program, the plan will be refunded automatically in full!

If Road Scholar has to cancel your program for any reason before you depart, you always have the option to get 100% of your money back—no questions asked.

The total price of the program you enroll in is the price you pay. We include everything (except the occasional meal) and don’t sneak in any hidden costs or “extras.” And that includes gratuities for our Group Leaders!

In the unlikely event we have to change the date of your program or cancel it, we'll give you a credit of up to $300 to cover any non-refundable travel expenses you may have incurred, such as if you booked your own airfare and needed to change your flights.

There are even occasions when we are able to re-negotiate the rates for hotels and meals, and if we can lower the price we’ll pass the savings on to you.

When you purchase Road Scholar airfare, you get free transfers from the airport to the starting location of the program on arrival and departure days, plus the comfort of knowing our air staff are always on call to handle any issues if they arise.

We have a team monitoring world weather and events, so if anything arises we coordinate with our network of local partners and airlines to get you home as quickly and safely as possible.
