When Does Coverage Under the Included Road Scholar Assurance Plan Begin and End?

Q: When does coverage begin and end if I am flying to my Road Scholar program?

A: Coverage begins with your flight to your Road Scholar program and ends when your trip is completed or as indicated in your policy.* This includes air travel days, regardless of whether the airfare was purchased through Road Scholar or on your own.

Q: What if I travel a few days before my program begins or stay a few days after it ends? Am I covered by the Road Scholar Assurance Plan during independent travel?

A: Yes—coverage extends to cover early travel and/or travel after your program ends, but only within the limits of the policy’s definition of “Travel Arrangements.”

Under the plan, you are covered from the time you depart and return on Road Scholar-made air travel arrangements. If you book independent air travel, you are covered if it is a round-trip flight to or from the program’s scheduled departure or return cities and the travel dates are within 14 total days of the program’s scheduled start and end dates. This means that if you choose to travel to your program destination a few days early and your flights fall within that 14-day window, those flights meet the definition of Travel Arrangements in the policy, and you are covered as soon as your flight departing flight begins and your return flight ends.

Q: When does coverage begin and end if I am driving to my Road Scholar program?

A: Coverage begins when you start your Road Scholar program and ends at the conclusion of your program or as indicated in your policy*.

Q: What if I get sick or injured while traveling on my own before or after the program and need emergency assistance?

A: First, seek professional medical attention and contact local emergency services if necessary.

If your air travel is within 14 total days* of the program’s scheduled start and end dates, the Road Scholar Assurance Plan, which is provided by Road Scholar to all Road Scholar participants when they are enrolled in a program, includes 24-hour emergency assistance in the event of a serious medical emergency and insurance for emergency medical evacuation. Should you experience a serious medical issue or are hospitalized, call LiveTravel Assist, Road Scholar’s emergency assistance provider.
