Online Lecture: Greek Islands of Antiquity — Rhodes

Join classical archaeologist and art historian Nick Stavrinides for the first lecture in this three-part series exploring the eastern Aegean islands of Greece — Rhodes, Kos and Samos. In this lecture, we turn to Rhodes, renowned in antiquity for its schools of rhetoric and philosophy, where Julius Caesar once crossed the sea to study. Discover the story of the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and how centuries later the Knights of St. John transformed the island into one of the medieval world’s most formidable fortresses.

This lecture is the first in a series of three lectures.
