This Road Scholar program expertly chose the group hikes and provided an extremely interesting 'learn by experiencing' active course. The group leader, Brian Cool, instilled a quiet confidence and helped the group to live in the moment and create deep memoires. The addition of poetry was deeply appreciated and the choice of poems highly relevant.

we just finished our first Road Scholar tour and were very impressed with the itinerary, instructors, and knowledge gained. We look forward to traveling again with Road Scholar.
— Review left October 30, 2024
This was a great learning and hiking experience. Our guide, Brian Cool, and our driver, Mark, really made the trip a fun and educational time. Learned a lot and challenged myself on the hikes.
— Review left October 28, 2024
Was an amazing trip unbelievable geological formations and great informative guides. A great group of like-minded people.
— Review left October 18, 2024
This is an excellent program for anyone who enjoys hiking and is interested in the geology of the Southwest. The scenery is truly breath-taking, but be advised that some of the hikes are at altitude and involve some steep ascents and descents on rocky terrain. Bring hiking poles, plenty of water and electrolytes, good hiking shoes with ankle gaiters, and enjoy this amazing experience!
— Review left October 14, 2024
At 73 years old I never thought I could hike Zion and Bryce Canyon the way I did with his program and I enjoyed every minute. I learned so much, handled the challenge and made new friends. I highly recommend this program!

What an amazing trip! My second Road Scholar trip. Brian Cool, our guide, was amazing! He goes out of his way to make the trip as incredible as it was! Thank you Brian!
— Review left September 23, 2024
I had a very enjoyable time on this trip. The guide was knowledgable, informative, friendly, helpful and kind and the other participants were a wonderful group of people to spend time with in the outdoors hiking in awe-inspiring places. I couldn't have enjoyed it more. Thank you, Road Scholar!

I am 72 and my husband is 77. We had apprehensions about hiking because of our age. We had an amazing experience with all the aspects of this trip. If you enjoy hiking and the outdoors, don't hesitate, just do it!
— Review left June 23, 2024
Loved this trip! Both parks were amazingly beautiful. Our group leader Brian was outstanding. The pace was challenging but manageable. Really enjoyed meeting and spending time with the members of our group.

Hiking Bryce and Zion National Parks is a tour worth taking if you enjoy getting outdoors; seeing beautiful, starkly differing scenery; and meeting people with similar interests. If you are lucky, you'll have Brian Cool and Mark Adkins leading your activities. They are a dynamic duo who complement each other and make your tour a truly memorable experience.

— Review left May 14, 2024
This program was fantastic! I was pushed out of my comfort zone and saw the most beautiful sites. My group and my guides, Sherry and Jared were all so helpful and kind. The bus, accommodations, and food were all wonderful. The lectures were outstanding. Truly the best trip I've ever taken!
— Review left May 6, 2024
This program was a wonderful introduction to Zion and Bryce National Parks. The hikes and walks were well planned and enabled us to see the magnificent views of canyons, hoodoo's, and mountains. Gary, the group leader, did an excellent job introducing us to the geology of the area, setting a good pace to accommodate everyone in the group, and regaling us with informative stories while hiking. Jerod was superb in his bus driver and group hike assistant roles.
— Review left April 23, 2024
Overall, an excellent trip. Snow Canyon State Park and Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks are beautiful. The petroglyphs at Snow Canyon, the view from Scout Lookout at Zion, and the hoodoos at Bryce Canyon were most impressive. The hikes were somewhat strenuous but quite doable since our leader, Gary, maintained a slow, steady pace. Gary’s extensive knowledge of the area really enhanced our overall enjoyment of the trip. Jerod, our bus driver, sweep, and all-around support person, was very helpful and knowledgeable as well. We appreciated having a small 14-person group on our tour. The only downside to the trip was the limited free time at the end of the day, but I understand that it’s difficult to cover such a large area in a short amount of time. My husband and I would definitely take another Road Scholar hiking tour.
— Review left April 23, 2024
Visiting Zion and Bryce N.P.s with Road Scholar was an excellent adventure. The hikes were diverse and awe-inspiring, especially Bryce Canyon. The small group size, along with Gary's enthusiasm/geology knowledge and Jerod's superb bus-driving skills, made this a great trip!
— Review left April 21, 2024
Zion and Bryce Canyon national parks are magnificent. Be aware that the hikes are strenuous. In Zion we hiked steadily up switchbacks, to be rewarded with breathtaking views at the top. At Bryce Canyon, we hiked down into the canyon, and there was still snow and plenty of mud on some parts of the trails in mid-April. The hikes back up to the top of the canyon (8,000 feet elevation) were also strenuous. It was worth it, Bryce Canyon's hoodoos are amazing. Gary and Jerod took good care of everyone, and Gary shared his extensive knowledge of the geology and history of the area.
— Review left April 21, 2024
Overall a great experience. I believe that my wife and I will be interested in future Road Scholar trips as well.
— Review left April 17, 2024
My experience in this program can be summed by incredible landscape and experienced hiking guides. Hiking among the hoodoo’s in Bryce Canyon is most memorable. Some sections of trails can be challenging but having experienced guides who know the terrain helped a great deal.
— Review left April 15, 2024
I participated in this hiking trip with 2 of my sisters and we had a great time. The guides were attentive and supportive, plus they were very knowledgeable about the area, giving many helpful tips to us along the way. Accommodations were top notch and the scenery and trails in the parks were fantastic. The guides were careful to adjust to everyone's individual interests and capabilities. Thank you so much!!

I loved this program. We visited Snow Canyon, Zion and Bryce, and each of them was beautiful and different. Our leader, Brian, was excellent in his knowledge and ability to make the program run smoothly. He made the whole experience amazing. Our bus driver and sweep, Dan, was also excellent and they both worked smoothly and efficiently when problems arose. I would highly recommend this program.

My fourth Road Scholar adventure. Fulfilling my dream of hiking all the national parks. Road Scholar has been instrumental in motivating me to do just that. I'm already on board for Glacier National Park in 2024!
— Review left November 2, 2023
A fun and challenging hiking experience in two amazing National parks in Utah. Participants enhance the trip since everyone is usually eager to learn and share ideas. The group leaders are very professional and do an excellent job overall. Always enough time for both hiking, and then relaxing with free time later in the day, making the day evenly balanced.
— Review left October 18, 2023
Great for couples, friends and solo travelers who want a challenging and scenic hiking experience! You show up and Road Scholar takes care of the rest. This trip exceeded my expectations!
— Review left October 2, 2023
Be prepared for rewarding, breath-taking views and the stunning colors for these moderate level hikes. Pictures do not do justice for these parks: Snow Canyon, Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Red Canyon. Strongly consider having hiking boots and appropriate backpack. Having a small group and outstanding leaders, Sherry and Jerod, made this trip very enjoyable and personable.
— Review left September 18, 2023
What an amazing experience! Great hikes with great people, and it's hard to imagine a better combination than Brian and Jerod to lead and drive us. They have the perfect skill sets for their jobs and both wear many hats. The beauty and grandeur of Bryce and Zion cannot be overstated. A++

Zion and Bryce should experienced by everyone. It is truly a phenomenal trip
— Review left May 28, 2023
This program is an excellent way to experience the geology, history, plants, and wildlife of Utah's magnificent landscape. I gained appreciation for these special places and am motivated to pursue further hiking exploration.
— Review left May 27, 2023
I thoroughly enjoyed this hiking trip in Zion and Bryce Canyon national parks. The hiking was strenuous and I would advise that for those considering it. As usual, the participants on this trip and the fantastic guide, Gary, made the trip a pleasure and increased the fun ten fold. The participants were inspirations to me when my energy flagged. Outside lectures by a raptor expert and geologist were exciting and helpful. As well, the glory of the landscape and the magical formations of rock and valley were unforgettable. I appreciated Gary sharing cultural information about the Mormon history and traditions of this area of the country as well.

Bryce & Zion are beautiful! But be aware that a couple of the hikes are quite strenuous and there isn't as much time to enjoy the scenery or views as I would have liked. But great if you want a serious hiking experience.

A great program and opportunity to explore the magnificent scenery of Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. As a veteran of many RS trips, I was very pleased with the guides and program overall. For those considering this trip be advised the big hikes in Zion and Bryce are steep and for experienced hikers due to the terrain and high altitudes – over 8000 feet at Bryce. We did the trip in April and the contrast in weather between Zion and Bryce was substantial. While the days were sunny, much of Bryce was snow covered. Road Scholar rented microspikes for us to use on our boots for the steep, snow covered icy trail and they were most appreciated. Do bring poles and know how to use them.

Brian and Jerod were great – flexible due to weather and trail conditions. The group of 12 were experienced hikers who brought water and sun protection for the first few days and hat, gloves, fleece, and down for the last couple. Brian rented YakTrax for us all to be able to navigate the ice and snow in Bryce. With sun and no wind and some exertion, shirt sleeves were enough by the time the temp hit 40 which was a far cry from the over 80 on the first day of hiking.

This program is definitely spirited at times. If you have some physical disabilities you might want to consider a different program. However, if this is not an issue for you, you will find this tour a fulfilling introduction to the Bryce/Zion area. The views are stunning and the educational information provided informative. A variety of hiking opportunities are included. I found the geology talk and the falconry presentations particularly interesting.

This was a wonderful trip. Southern Utah, Zion and Bryce are beautiful. They should be on every American's bucket list. Our guide, Gary Goold, was outstanding. His knowledge as a geologist and native of the area is vast and his enthusiasm is infectious. Highly Recommend.

The Zion/Bryce hiking adventure was amazing. The beauty of Zion and Bryce cannot even be described! Our instructors were so helpful, patient, and knowledgeable about the hiking trails and the geology. They really watched out for us and accommodated the fast and slow hikers.

It was a wonderful adventure. Hiking and activities were as expected, somewhat challenging but there were choices to hike less strenuous options.
Kavarra was an excellent tour guide. Mark was an exceptional bus driver/sweep and I recommend him to be chosen as a tour group leader in future. His personality and people skills are perfect for that position. Kavarra was very knowledgeable, caring and flexible based on the group's needs and wants. I would rate this trip as exceptional.

This was an amazing program in beautiful national parks. A truly rewarding educational experience. I highly recommend this program for individuals that can meet the challenges of hiking in an area with significant elevation changes.

The Zion and Bryce trip covers a beautiful and unique land. Hiking is an ideal way to get to know some of the geology, history and beauty. I had not been to this part of the country and I was thoroughly satisfied with this introduction.

This is an ideal way for a single person to explore the world and feel safe and secure. I felt very pampered, and cared for by the way it was organized, as well as by the program staff.

Great Experience: I've wanted to visit the Utah National Parks for a long time and finally did. I usually go on "Challenging" hikes so I was a little concerned that the hikes would be too easy for me. However, there are a variety of hikes that accommodate most hikers. And the guide, Kavarra, made sure that everyone was in their comfort zone. She was very encouraging to those that were a little reluctant, with apparent success. And she also allowed the faster hikers to go ahead when it was appropriate and safe to do so. I had a wonderful time and would certainly recommend this trip.

As Road Scholar "veterans" we found that this trip met all of our expectations! The Leaders, Gary Goold and Jerod Jeppson, are extremely well versed in the area - know it inside and out - and were enthusiastic about showing us the spectacular scenery of Zion and Bryce National Parks along with some other "hidden" areas. The hiking was strenuous but "doable" with spectacular scenery at every turn. The Leaders provided plenty of encouragement and a good group of fellow travelers made it a most enjoyable experience!

The Hiking Zion & Bryce Canyon National Parks program was outstanding. Beautiful nature viewing, challenging hikes, and interesting educational content made for a wonderful week. Kavarra Corr, our group leader, did an outstanding job of making the area 'come alive' with her interesting talks, stories, and narration on this unique area. I highly recommend this program!

I'm not really a hiker, but I am active. Still, this trip got me outside of my comfort zone - which was a wonderful thing! I learned so much about the geology and history of Utah, and Zion and Bryce specifically. Our guide, Kavarra Core, and Paul Peterson, our driver/guide, were fantastic. They knew so much about the local areas and were able to give great recommendations for what to do on free time. Plus, they were exceptionally helpful to someone like me who was not used to hiking, especially at high altitudes-I. live at sea level. Always encouraging and positive. And the trip itself was great. There were a variety of restaurants and hotels we ate and stayed at, and I will say, Road Scholar attracts wonderful people. Made friends, have beautiful pictures, and wonderful memories of this great trip!

Hiking Zion and Bryce was the best hiking trip I have ever experienced! The leaders were well informed, passionate about the area, fun and accommodating. This part of the world is beyond what pictures can show and gives you a greater appreciation for nature. I would love to do it again!

I was a 1st time Road Scholar, this trip was all I expected and so much more. Our guides; George and Denise were fantastic. They each brought so much to the trip. George, being the Geologist gave us information that really helped explain how all these majestic canyons actually got here. Denise, was our leader and made sure that each of us felt included in all the adventures even if not everyone could do each hike. Harry was our driver as well as assisting us with hikes, his humor was great. The small group made it easy to get to know one another and we all seemed to get along. We had one group member suffer an accident but our group rallied around him and got him safely down to the bus. Friends were made and emails were exchanged. It was an awesome experience. The beauty of Zion and Bryce will be in my memory and the photos that we are sharing are only a small piece of the whole experience.

if you've never been on a Road Scholar trip, you should. I was concerned that it would be a "If it's Tuesday, this must be Belgium" experience. It wasn't. It was a really great experience. You do have to temper your need for independence and be able to go with the flow. Therefore people who dislike handing over control to others may not feel this is a good fit. Other than that, I can't wiat to sign up for another trip.

We had a great time and the leaders were wonderful. There was even a lecture on geology and a presentation on birds of prey in the deserts and mountains of Utah ....with real birds brought in cages that were taken out to show to us.
