To fully appreciate Greenland requires two different vessels — a properly equipped expedition ship built for the rigors of Arctic seas, and a nimble Zodiac boat to bring you ashore and closer to the glaciers and icebergs you’ll encounter on the water. On this journey, you’ll have both. The HX Fridtjof Nansen features an onboard team of experts to give context to the natural and cultural discoveries that await you, along with a science center, lecture facilities, observation decks and beautifully appointed cabins and public spaces. The Zodiac boats it carries will bring you into breathtaking fjords where you’ll approach colossal glaciers, dramatic icebergs and perhaps the seals and whales that abound in the area. And when you go ashore, you’ll learn about Indigenous culture and how life is carved out in the vastness of Greenland. Every day is a new adventure on this remarkable journey!
Best of all, you'll...
  • Venture on Zodiac boats to the awe-inspiring glaciers of Disko Bay.
  • Learn about Inuit culture in remote communities of Western Greenland.
  • Experience the midnight sun above the Arctic Circle.

Learn About Activity Levels
When ashore, walking up to three miles per day in Arctic conditions including snow, ice and rocky, uneven terrain. Climbing stairs between decks on board as well as external gangway stairs to transfer between the ship and Zodiacs. Most embarkations and disembarkations will be via Zodiac, which requires stepping up or down approximately 12 inches. Zodiac landings will generally entail disembarking onto rocky or gravelly beaches and, in windy weather, can make for rather splashy rides. There is the potential for rough seas with ship movement. Must be physically capable of participating in all planned program activities.
