Emily Dickinson, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Louisa May Alcott — three very different writers, all sharing a common thread. Along with literary voices like Edith Wharton and W.E.B. Du Bois, their stories are deeply rooted in New England, where mountains, villages and vibrant intellectual communities helped shape some of America's most enduring works. Explore these very places, including the homes of several writers, and discover the lives, ideas and historical moments behind their work. Each day brings a new area into focus, and with it, visits and lectures from museum curators and local experts. From Concord’s Orchard House and House of the Seven Gables to the Smith College Rare Book Collection and the Emily Dickinson Museum, experience the places that inspired generations of American writers — all alongside your fellow Road Scholar bookworms.
