Walking up to 2 miles per day over city sidewalks and museum grounds. Standing up to 4 hours per day. Program will require approximately 8 miles of walking over 4 days. Extent and duration of walking during independent exploration is according to personal choice. Stairs may be required at some locations, though elevators are generally available. San Francisco MUNI is used as transportation for field trips on 1 day in San Francisco and can be crowded, require standing and unavoidable use of stairs. Must be physically capable of participating in all planned program activities.

Explore collections in the de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor, sister museums that comprise San Francisco’s largest public arts institution. Study modern and contemporary art from around the world at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. And expand your knowledge of diverse artists and cultures at the Asian Art Museum, the Museum of the African Diaspora and the Mission District murals. Mary McCloy was born and raised in San Francisco; she has led for Road Scholar there and internationally, taking groups to Central and Eastern Europe. Mary is certified through the San Francisco Tour Guide Guild and a graduate of the International Tour Management Institute. She is also a volunteer for San Francisco City Guides and leads a Haight Ashbury walking program, revisiting the neighborhood where she grew up. Mary holds a master’s degree in both nursing and counseling. She enjoys Irish history, music, and dance.

Juan Fuentes
Juan R. Fuentes is a graduate of San Francisco State University. He taught at the Mission Campus/City College SF, the California College of the Arts, Oakland, and was visiting faculty at the San Francisco Art Institute’s print department. He was also director of Mission Grafica at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts. Inspired by the Chicano Movement and mentors Rupert Garcia and Malaquias Montoya, Juan has dedicated his art as an artist/activist in supporting and being part of a global movement for social change.
Annice Jacoby
Annice Jacoby is recognized for her innovative work in public art, literature, and visual arts. She was the public relations director at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the director of public events at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Annice Jacoby’s work expands art in public life employing poetry, theater, and media to spark ideas and institutions to examine the critical issues of the day.
