But did you know that the "City by the Bay" is also home to celebrated museums, inspiring murals and growing, diverse communities that are further shaping its art scene? Immerse yourself in San Francisco’s art world on this learning adventure that will introduce you the best of European, African American, Asian, Chicano and Latino art communities. Explore collections in the de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor, sister museums that comprise San Francisco’s largest public arts institution. Study modern and contemporary art from around the world at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. And expand your knowledge of diverse artists and cultures at the Asian Art Museum, the Museum of the African Diaspora and the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts. Daily lectures and field trips with local experts will bring the city’s African American, Asian, Chicano and Latino art communities to life in this one-of-a-kind experience.

Simon Kenrick
A 23-year veteran of Road Scholar, Simon was previously a political journalist, neighborhood artist and kindergarten teacher. He teaches art history at San Francisco State University and Osher Lifelong Learning in Berkeley. Widely traveled in the U.S. and Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, he brings to life his personal knowledge of works and sites in his Road Scholar talks, museum and architectural tours—from Classical Greece and Rome to medieval Morocco, Impressionist Paris and the cutting-edge arts of the contemporary city.

Nadine Bopp
Nadine Bopp taught sustainable architecture, urban planning, botany, and environmental science courses at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia College, and DePaul University for 19 years. She has a master’s degree in landscape architecture and worked for the Chicago Park District, running the operations for 124 parks. As a lifelong environmentalist, she continues to broaden her knowledge by exploring drought-tolerant landscape design, water conservation, and California’s landscape ecosystems. She enjoys teaching about Southern California’s gardens, architecture, and botanical diversity.

Mary Jackson
Mary Jackson recently retired from teaching English at a Northern California high school. During a 34-year career, she taught honors English and multicultural literature, chaired the English department, and served as a mentor teacher. During the summers, Mary and her husband, Drew, took high school students on international trips that took them throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa. Over 60 Road Scholar programs later, they stay busy with both intergenerational and adult programs in Northern California, from hiking Yosemite to exploring the coastal village of Mendocino.

Mary McCloy
Mary McCloy was born and raised in San Francisco; she has led for Road Scholar there and internationally, taking groups to Central and Eastern Europe. Mary is certified through the San Francisco Tour Guide Guild and a graduate of the International Tour Management Institute. She is also a volunteer for San Francisco City Guides and leads a Haight Ashbury walking program, revisiting the neighborhood where she grew up. Mary holds a master’s degree in both nursing and counseling. She enjoys Irish history, music, and dance.

Amy Bowen
Amy Bowen was raised in northern New Jersey and currently lives in Sonoma County, California. Amy holds a bachelor’s degree from New York University as well as a teaching credential from Sonoma State, and her prior careers include commercial lending and teaching high school. Amy enjoys leading groups throughout California and the Pacific Northwest. Past and current adventures include San Francisco and Yosemite, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, and Glacier National Parks. In between programs, she spends time with family, often planning personal adventures.
