Carole Flynn taught for over 40 years in mainstream schools as well as the Children's Hospital School at Great Ormond Street in London, where she was the assistant head teacher. She joined Road Scholar in 2014 as a group leader. She has also been a group leader on many transatlantic programs and several Nordic programs. She has also been part of the team on two Private Plane programs. She enjoys gardening, walking, craft/art work, and playing the piano.
Christopher Ball was head of English faculty at a Norfolk high school before retirement. He taught English, drama, and film studies to children aged 11 to 18. Christopher also acted in community theatre in various places in the UK. He enjoys travel, theatre, cinema, reading history and literature, and occasionally dares to write his own poems. Christopher had been a group leader for Road Scholar UK since 2015 in Scotland, Wales, England, and New York before voyaging back to England on the Queen Mary 2.
Christina Holttum is London born and bred and has spent most of her life living within its orbit. She is semiretired and has been with Road Scholar for over a decade, working mostly in Scotland and London. Prior to that, she would front telecom conferences all over the world. Christina is particularly interested in the American Civil War, and would go on a related RS program given the opportunity.
David Spooner is an experienced study leader with a passion for history, a B.A. in geology and geography, and over 20 years experience of inviting people to travel in time and space throughout the country he loves. He is enriched by sharing what he continues to learn about Scotland; the grandeur of nature, the glories of cities, culture and sport, and stories of people’s striving and strife from the first settlers to today.
John Hannyngton worked in educational travel during his career. For 20 years he lived in Boston where he started ACIS, an educational travel company which was taken over in due course by AIFS, a much larger and more diverse educational organization.
Morten Ronne, although born in Denmark, has lived more than 15 years in Scotland working almost exclusively as a tour guide/group leader showing people around all corners of the country. His background is as an interpreter/translator but for the past two decades has worked mostly in the travel industry in the UK, Spain, Portugal, and Latin America.
Fiona Mackenzie is a Scottish travel professional. In 2018, she completed over 18 months' formal study of Scotland, ranging from geology to history, architecture, and wildlife, traveling across the country to research and find new horizons. She loves the "why" of history, landscape, and architecture, as well as the plants of Scotland and how they are used. Fiona is also interested in handcrafts, bridges, Scottish food and drink, and traditional life.
Wendy Newton, born into a Highland farming family, used early practical skills to become an engineer, which took her all over the world. Now returned to her native Highland home, Wendy has been sharing her Scottish homeland, its history, story, crafts, culture and heritage, and its future with visitors from across the world. She is qualified as a Scottish Tour Guide Association Blue Badge Guide.
