Stella Grace Lyons
Stella Grace Lyons is an art history lecturer, speaker, and writer accredited with The Arts Society. She gained her degrees from the University of Bristol and University of Warwick. She studied Renaissance art in Italy at the British Institute of Florence and Venetian art in Venice. Her particular interests include 19th-century British art, the Renaissance, 20th century American figurative artists, and representations of the nude in art. Stella conducts art history lectures in-person and online. She enjoys traveling, theatre, classical music and discovering Scottish whiskeys.

Tommy Hatwell—born in Plymouth, England—has lived, worked, and photographed all over the globe. In 2017, he completed his B.A. with honors in commercial photography and soon after was nominated for the prestigious Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery in London, also opening his first solo exhibition. He shares his passion and knowledge of photography by traveling around the world, offering workshops, and visiting universities. Tommy provides creative, hands-on photography lessons during Road Scholar Floating Campus programs, both on shore and aboard ship.
Gregory Dowling, an associate professor of North American language and literature at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice until retirement, focused on British and American Romantic poetry in the 20th and 21st centuries. Interested in Italian culture and history, especially Venice, he has published widely on British and American writers in Italy from the Romantic age onwards. Author of the sightseeing pages of the 'Time Out Guide to Venice' from 1999 to 2009, he has also published six novels, including 'Ascension' and 'The Four Horsemen.'
Activity Level
Keep the Pace
Walking uphill and downhill, up to 3 miles per day, on uneven terrain, cobblestone and marble streets that may be slippery. Steep stairs without railings and standing for up to four hours per day with breaks at museum/historic sites. Participants must be able to handle the gangway on the ship which isn't always level and, depending on weather conditions, might be steep. NOTE: The ship does not have elevators.
Floating Campus®
On our Road Scholar Floating Campuses, we’ll have the entire ship to ourselves and enjoy field trips onshore in smaller groups. Onboard experts will be on hand throughout the voyage and will offer instruction during exclusive lectures, Q&A sessions and discussions.
