Led by a distinguished group of knowledgeable instructors, this program offers an invigorating introduction to the capital’s memorials, neighborhoods, and influential figures. The learning adventure ends with a Potomac River cruise, providing a fresh perspective on Washington’s monuments and memorials as viewed from the water.

Lee Ann Rose has found a way to use her theatre degree and her love of history into a career that has spanned 20 years at Colonial Williamsburg and now has allowed her to step out creating her own company called, Shades of Our Past. At her time at Colonial Williamsburg, she has played Martha Washington and coached other character interpreters and Nation Builders. When she is not performing, she is working on a book about Martha Washington's children.
Christi Pancoast is originally from Ohio and has been a teacher in Richmond, Virginia for over two decades. She is a self-proclaimed travel junkie, lifelong learner, and people enthusiast. In her free time, she enjoys Zumba, yoga, and being with her friends.
Terry Rose has been leading history programs in Washington, D.C.; New York; and Boston, as well as the historic triangle of Virginia for a decade. She also leads history programs in New England and natural science programs in the Western National Parks. She has a bachelor’s degree in health education with a minor in science from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from the University of South Florida. Her first profession was as a middle school educator and counselor.

Let's Go!
Walking up to 5 miles per day at a moderate pace of 2 mph. Standing up to 2 hours per day. Program will require approximately 15 miles of walking over 5 days. Must be able to use stairs in order to navigate field trip sites. Due to unavoidable stairs and the extensive use of the DC Metro, wheelchairs and scooters cannot be accommodated on this program. Expect crowded conditions in pedestrian centers and museums. Anticipate temperatures to reach 85-95°F consistently. Must be physically capable of participating in all planned program activities.
