Since it began as an educational experiment in 1874, Chautauqua Institution has grown into a center for lifelong learners. Situated on the picturesque shores of Lake Chautauqua in western New York, the Chautauqua Institution is known for its bustling summer season. This unique Chautauqua experience takes place in “off-season” of fall and spring, and it lets you and your fellow Road Scholars get the grounds mostly to yourself. Enjoy exclusive Road Scholar courses while staying on the institution’s peaceful, scenic grounds. During your stay, explore exciting themes such as art, music, literature, science, politics, religion and more. Get ready for the educational opportunity of a lifetime!

Kaye Lindauer
Kaye has studied and taught psychology, literature and theology over the past 45 years. She focuses on combining these disciplines in order to bring new dimensions of understanding to the world's great stories (mythology, fairy tales, bible stories). For more than 30 years, Kaye Lindauer taught graduate and adult education courses in storytelling and literature at Syracuse University. Kaye continues to conduct weekend retreats for adults in storytelling and personal development, freelance storytelling, conference speaking and instructing for adult education programs.

Philip Shull is a retired senior diplomat and a senior consultant, expert witness, author, and speaker on China, international trade, food security, and economic/market development. He is a native of Wooster, Ohio and was educated in the U.S, India, and Switzerland. He received his bachelor’s from Miami University (Ohio) and his master’s from Stanford. He served as a diplomat for over 30 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Mr. Shull is an experienced trade negotiator on bilateral and multilateral agricultural and food safety issues.
Kristan McMahon has served as President of the Robert H. Jackson Center since April 2019. Previously, McMahon was corporate counsel for Verizon in Arlington, VA where she advised all business entities on a variety of antitrust issues, including deal analysis and compliance with antitrust/competition laws. McMahon received a B.A. in journalism/mass communication and political science at Saint Bonaventure University, a J.D. from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.
Bill Vossler has been a full-time professional writer for over four decades, having published 4,280 essays, articles, columns, poems, short stories, interviews, features, and one play, in 236 magazines, including Reader's Digest, Chicago Tribune Magazine, Arizona Highways, Catholic Digest, Farm Collector, The Writer, Writer's Digest, and Hemispheres. He has published 19 books and has given a wide variety of presentations over the past decade, including Living with the Lakota, The Magic of Photography, and Merci Trains: Trains of Hope.
Activity Level
Easy Going
Minimal walking within the hotel for some lectures and all meals. Appropriate program for those with mobility devices such as walkers and canes. Handicap accessible shuttles to classes and entertainment are available to events outside the hotel. Handicapped rooms with walk-in showers are very limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis. Additional walking around the grounds during free time according to personal choice.
