Examine the challenges facing U.S. diplomacy and the functions of embassies and consulates during this fascinating program designed in collaboration with the American Foreign Service Association. Molly Williamson, a former Foreign Service Officer, speaks extensively on energy, economic, and demographic factors affecting foreign policy formulation, U.S.-Middle East relations, especially regional unrest, the Israel-Palestine conflict, Iran and nuclear challenges, and the interagency process. She is a scholar with the Middle East Institute and the National Council on US-Arab Relations, adjunct professor at the Defense Institute of Security Cooperation, and guest lecturer at Johns Hopkins University and the National Joint Staff College.
For five generations, Sylvia Faust’s family has been escaping to the shores of Lake Chautauqua for summer vacations. Sylvia is now a permanent Chautauqua resident and has served on the Chautauqua Board of Trustees. She is a habitat worker both here and abroad and has taught as a special education teacher. Sylvia is a snowbird and spends her winters in Florida where she has worked as a tax preparer for 30 years. She is the proud mother of two children and grandmother to five grandchildren.
Jane Zimmerman, after graduating from Clayton High School in 1980, attended Macalester College and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. For more than 25 years, Jane served the United States Department of State as a Foreign Service officer. Jane now teaches at the University of Virginia’s Frank Batten School of Leadership & Public Policy. She and her husband, John, live in Arlington, Virginia, where they eagerly await visits from their college-aged son.
Nancy J. Eslick is the Senior Deputy Assistant to the Administrator for USAID’s Bureau for Resilience, Environment and Food Security (REFS), supporting implementation of the Water for the World and Feed the Future initiatives. She serves as the USAID Global Water Coordinator, leading the agency’s implementation responsibilities under the U.S. Global Water Strategy. She holds master's degrees in public affairs and environmental science, with a focus in water resources, in addition to an undergraduate degree, from Indiana University.
Activity Level
Easy Going
Minimal walking within the hotel for some lectures and all meals. Appropriate program for those with mobility devices such as walkers and canes. Handicap rooms are limited. Handicap accessible shuttles to classes and entertainment are available to events outside the hotel. Additional walking around the grounds during free time according to personal choice.
