Iceland is known as the “Land of Fire and Ice,” but it’s equally memorable for the warmth of its people. On this adventure, explore Iceland’s natural wonders while gaining insight into local culture and daily life. Embark on an active exploration of Iceland’s geologic marvels, where lava fields from recent eruptions stretch across the landscape, hot springs shoot skyward to heights of 100 feet and black-sand beaches create striking coastal scenery. Experience these environments from multiple perspectives through short hikes, horseback rides and Zodiac boat voyages among floating icebergs. Along your journey, spend your evenings in countryside accommodations, many hosted by locals and farmers who offer an intimate and welcoming stay. From plunging waterfalls to massive glaciers to volcanic geography, discover the forces shaping Iceland’s South Coast and the culture rooted in this dramatic landscape.
Best of all, you'll...
  • Explore the historical and cultural significance of Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Iceland’s parliament first convened in 930 CE and tectonic plates visibly meet.
  • Traverse across Vatnajökull glacier in a super jeep and discover how glaciers form and their impact on the local environment.
  • Sail around Vestmannaeyjar, an archipelago sculpted by powerful volcanic forces, and learn how lava flows changed the landscape and coastline during the eruption of Eldfell in 1973.
