When you think of a vibrant culinary scene, you may not think of Alaska — but its harsh, beautiful landscape shapes the food and farms that thrive in these rugged conditions. From foraging for wild edibles in Anchorage to learning the ins-and-outs of oyster and kelp farming in Homer, get a hands-on look into local farming practices and cuisine. Accompanied by local experts, you’ll explore Alaska’s homesteading history in Soldotna and get a true sense of what it’s like to live off the land in one of the most remote corners of the U.S. Taste your way through the Last Frontier with a mix of farm-to-table meals, wild foraged ingredients and insights into Alaska’s growing food culture — including sampling fireweed honey, considered to be the “champagne of honey.” Along the way, you’ll hear stories of survival and sustainability, and experience what it means to thrive in Alaska’s challenging yet rich environment.
Best of all, you'll...
  • Explore Homer’s coastal waters and learn how local communities are embracing sustainable aquaculture practices like oyster and kelp farming.
  • Join a local expert as they lead you on a foraging hike where you'll discover wild edibles like nettles, ferns and berries, then enjoy a meal made from your foraged finds — a true farm-to-table experience in the wilds of Alaska.
  • Explore Alaska’s homesteading past with a visit to a historic log village and a fascinating look at artifacts that showcase how people survived and thrived in the harsh conditions of the Last Frontier.
