During World War II, Seattle became the essential American homefront city. It was transformed almost overnight into a crowded, mobilized boomtown. Join Seattle-based historian and author Lorraine McConaghy for a vivid exploration of how the war reshaped the city. From Navy ports and shipyards to Boeing assembly lines and the secretive Hanford site, wartime industry drew people from across the country. African American families, Dust Bowl migrants and single women all found opportunity in this rapidly changing city. As the war ended, many men and women in uniform did not return. Seattle would never be the same.
