At a Glance
From the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, three queens shaped the course of France through power, ambition and resilience. Join Caroline Buizza, local educator, for her latest series on extraordinary women in French history. In this second session, learn about the Duchess of Brittany and twice Queen of France, Anne de Bretagne. She first married Charles VIII as a teenager, only to become queen again after his untimely death when she wed his cousin, Louis XII. Fiercely protective of Brittany’s independence and the futures of her daughters, Anne was a determined and strategic ruler navigating the complex politics of her time.
