The path to civil and human rights — for women, for people of color, for the LGBTQ community — is one that has often led through Washington, D.C. Join us in our nation’s capital as we trace the history of rights movements from the campaign for women’s suffrage in the early 1900s, to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, to Black Lives Matter and equal protections for LGBTQ citizens, to the nascent movement for the right of all to a safe and sustainable environment. Each day will focus on a different struggle, with walking explorations of important neighborhoods and sites, and meals taken in woman- and Black-owned businesses and others important to the Queer community. You’ll explore museums including the Anacostia Community Museum, highlighting the often-overlooked stories of people furthest from opportunity. Hear expert presentations on landmark moments, key issues and lived experiences, and have the opportunity to volunteer at the DC Central Kitchen.
Best of all, you'll...
  • Experience private, expert-led walking explorations of sites and neighborhoods integral to each movement you study.
  • Support Black and woman-owned restaurants and others supportive of the LGBTQ community.
  • Enjoy expert lectures providing context and commentary on the pivotal figures and events of the nation’s human and civil rights movements.
