Santa Muerte has been called the “fastest growing religion in the Americas." Find out what it’s all about with religion and culture expert, Brian Carwana. Delve into a worship that focuses on Saint Death — or the Bony Lady — a female figure that resembles the Grim Reaper. Her devotees in Mexico and elsewhere are growing rapidly, much to the dismay of the Catholic and Pentecostal churches. Brian will also explain the Day of the Dead, which is not related to Santa Muerte, and explore how both of these traditions mark the attitude towards death found in Mexico and other Latin American cultures.

General Notes

Your online lecture will take place live over the course of 1-2 hours. All times are listed in the EASTERN time zone. If you live in a different time zone, please adjust your schedule accordingly. You will receive a confirmation email when you enroll, and a reminder email one week and one day before, as well as the morning of the event with a link and instructions on how to tune in. You will not be pictured on screen during the lecture, but you will have the opportunity to ask the instructor live questions using the Q&A box.
