The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is the most important Arctic ecosystem on Earth for wildlife and scientific research. Millions of the Earth’s birds come every year for breeding and fledging their young. Thousands of caribou migrate annually to ANWR to calve. The Gwich’in people live on this historic, hallowed land. NOAA’s premier Arctic research station in Utqiagvik is critical to understand the impacts of climate change and weather patterns affecting the entire world. Since 1960, the area has been threatened by the fossil fuel industry, a controversy that lingers today. Join local Alaskan guide and resident Jerri Roberts for a look at this unique location and the creatures who inhabit the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
