At a Glance

Iconic and timeless are the words that best describe this oasis of harmonious architecture and public space in Midtown Manhattan. Derided by early critics, Rockefeller Center has been embraced by natives and visitors alike as both a physical and virtual town square. Let’s explore its storied history, conceived in the boom of the “Roaring Twenties”, realized in the depths of Great Depression. What was to be a new home for the Metropolitan Opera, thrives today as locus of publishing, news, radio and television. Discover the Center from its innovative underground shopping concourses to the top of its storied observation deck.
