Join historian and archaeologist Oscar Oviedo Velasco for a fascinating exploration of some of Peru’s most important archaeological discoveries from the last 40 years. Most people are familiar with the Inca Empire, but far fewer know about the remarkable civilizations that came before. From early tombs in the Andes to monumental sites along the coast, Oscar will highlight recent discoveries tied to pre-Inca cultures, including the Moche and Lambayeque. Through the lens of archaeology and cultural history, discover the extraordinary depth of Peru’s pre-Inca past.
General Notes
Your online lecture will take place live over the course of 1-2 hours. All times are listed in the EASTERN time zone. If you live in a different time zone, please adjust your schedule accordingly. This live online experience uses Zoom Webinar, an easy-to-use web video service that includes closed captioning. All you need is an Internet connection and your computer. You will receive a confirmation email when you enroll, and a reminder email one week and one day before, as well as the morning of the event with a link and instructions on how to tune in. You will not be pictured on screen during the lecture, but you will have the opportunity to ask the instructor live questions using the Q&A box. Unless otherwise noted, all those who enroll in this program receive access to the live event as well as a recording of the lecture that you can watch any time within the two weeks following the live event.

Oscar Oviedo Velasco
Oscar Oviedo Velasco has over 15 years of experience as a local expert and group leader. He specializes in archeology, history, and art of Peru, and has conducted studies on pre-Hispanic textile and pottery techniques and Viceregal history of Lima. Oscar has a degree in museology and has participated in installations for the Amano Museum of Pre-Columbian Textiles. Oscar has participated in excavation projects related to pre-Inca civilizations and battlefields in Lima.
