Delve into the origins and traditions of the world’s five major faiths — Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism — during a fascinating, five-day online learning adventure. With Dr. Brian Carwana, religion expert and Executive Director of the Encounter World Religions Centre, spend each day studying a new religion and engaging in discussion with other religious instructors who offer a look into their own faith and beliefs. Learn how each religion has changed through time and what it means to be a modern-day follower. Throughout your learning adventure, get to know your fellow Road Scholars as you engage together in thoughtful discussion and Q&A sessions.

You’ll enjoy 2-3 hours of daily instruction, discussion and/or field trips, which includes sufficient breaks throughout the program. Please review the daily itinerary for start and end times to ensure you won’t miss a minute of this live experience. This online program is through Zoom, an easy-to-use web video service that includes closed captioning. All you need is an Internet connection and your computer. We’ll provide a how-to guide to make sure you’ll have a hassle-free experience. This session is offered live only and will not be available on demand.

Brian Carwana left a business career to follow his passion for world religious and spiritual traditions. He earned a Master’s in Religion and Culture, a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, and is now Executive Director of Encounter World Religions Centre, an educational organization promoting religious literacy and informed understanding of cultural diversity. Brian acquired a practical education in religious traditions by listening to religious leaders, visiting houses of worship, and observing services. He sits on the steering committee for the Parliament of World Religions.

Laurieanne Wysocki grew up on a farm in Western Massachusetts. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a BA in French. It was during a fortuitous semester abroad in France that she first discovered the many joys of educational and cultural travel. Meeting up with Road Scholar was a perfect fit and for 20 years she has lead participants across the globe delighting in lifelong learning together. When she is home, you can find Laurieanne painting in her art studio, working in the garden, or researching the next adventure.
