Planned Giving

There are many ways to create your legacy of learning and help build Road Scholar's future. Road Scholar established the Legacy Society to recognize the individuals who have chosen to honor their commitment to lifelong learning in such a generous way. Join the Legacy Society by naming Road Scholar in your will or trust, or by establishing a charitable gift annuity. Let us work with you to create your special legacy and continue to provide learning adventures for generations of lifelong learners to come.

If you are considering making a planned gift, or if you would like more information, please contact Ann Lamond, Senior Leadership and Planned Giving Officer by phone at (877) 737‐0664 or by email, ann.lamond@roadscholar.org.

Bequests

Over the years, our programs have been strengthened by alumni and supporters who have named Road Scholar as a beneficiary in their wills, retirement and estate plans. We have received bequests ranging from $5,000 to $1 million. All gifts, large and small, help Road Scholar to grow and develop programs that meet the changing educational needs of lifelong learners.

When you leave a bequest to Road Scholar, you’ll have the satisfaction of leaving behind a legacy of education to enrich the lives of lifelong learners for years to come.

Have you already named us as a beneficiary of your will or trust? Please let us know, so we can thank you.

See sample bequest language.

Charitable Gift Annuities

A gift annuity sets up a simple contract between you and Road Scholar. In exchange for your gift, Road Scholar promises to pay you a fixed income throughout your lifetime. This is a wonderful way to provide reliable income during your lifetime and to help ensure the future vitality of Road Scholar and our educational programs for older adults.

Road Scholar charitable gift annuities are available in most states and follow the rates suggested by the American Council on Gift Annuities.

Deferred Charitable Gift Annuities

Like a charitable gift annuity, a deferred charitable gift annuity is an irrevocable gift that provides for an immediate charitable deduction and fixed income payments for life for one or two income beneficiaries. Income payments must be deferred at least one year after the gift date.

Charitable Remainder Trusts

Charitable remainder trusts are a time-tested way to provide for Road Scholar’s future while you satisfy personal and family financial needs. They offer increased income, set aside funds for family members and provide tax relief, with the added benefit of supporting Road Scholar.

We offer two types of charitable remainder trusts: charitable remainder unitrusts and charitable remainder annuity trusts.

Lifetime Income Gifts Planned Giving Calculator

The Planned Giving Calculator is easy to use! It is designed to provide you with an illustration of the income and tax benefits to which you may be entitled if you make a planned gift to benefit you and Road Scholar. Simply enter the relevant information in the spaces provided below and the calculator will estimate your benefits.

The Elderhostel Pooled Income Fund

The Elderhostel Pooled Income Fund is a trust fund into which donors’ contributions are pooled and invested. The income you receive quarterly for life is your share of the actual earnings on the Fund’s portfolio. This provides a potential for growth in income over time.

For as little as $5,000 you can make a special gift to Road Scholar, benefit from a significant charitable contribution deduction and receive lifetime income for yourself, a relative or friend. Each gift to the Fund can benefit one or two income beneficiaries.

Other Estate Gifts

There are other options which may fit your individual needs, including gifts of real estate and retirement accounts. For more information please contact Ann Lamond at ann.lamond@roadscholar.org or toll free at (877) 737-0664.
