Ocean Science Adventures on Chincoteague Bay With Your Grandchild
After you enroll, we’ll ask you to provide or update your personal information and preferences, which includes your health information, lodging and meal preferences for your program.
Three forms are required prior to the group starting: medical release, health history, and participant acknowledgment of risk form. Chincoteague Bay Field Station, the entity that will provide programming during your trip, is required by its insurance carrier to obtain a signed liability release waiver from all program participants. Participants must sign the Chincoteague Bay Field Station’s liability waiver prior to participating in the program activity. This waiver will be included in the program preparatory materials participants will receive after enrolling in the program and must be returned prior to the program’s commencement. Participants 16 years old or older should bring Real-compliant photo ID (required to visit the NASA base on Wallops Island). Foreign nationals must complete the Foreign National Form at least 6 weeks in advance to access the NASA/Navy Base. Access is then subject to approval by NASA and may be denied if there is not an escort available to accompany the group. You may want to bring your Golden Age Pass/Golden Eagle Pass/Duck Stamp if you plan on visiting the National Wildlife Refuge on your own.
United States citizens don’t need a visa for any of the countries you’ll be visiting. Non-U.S. citizens should refer to their country's requirements to ensure they have the necessary documentation for travel.
A signed Parental Consent form is required for this program. The form must be signed by both parent(s)/legal guardian(s) of the child participating in the program and returned to the program provider prior to the start of the program. You will receive the form as part of your program information packet. You will also be able to access the form through your online account.

Getting To The Chincoteague Bay Field Station Wallops Island is an isolated place and traveling here can be difficult. The Chincoteague Bay Field Station of the Marine Science Consortium is available should you need assistance. Follow Route 13 (Lankford Highway) to the traffic light at VA 175 (T’s Corner and Chincoteague Road). This is about 4 miles south of the MD-VA border on the Delmarva Peninsula. Take VA 175 E for approximately 3 miles. At the traffic light take a left onto Atlantic Road. At the end of Atlantic Road (approx. 0.5 miles) bear left onto Mill Dam Road. The Chincoteague Bay Field Station is located on your right. Turn right onto Enterprise Street (the right after the Chincoteague Bay Field Station sign), then make an immediate left. Check in will be at the Education Center. Please be aware of the time that it takes to travel on the Eastern Shore. The speed limit is 35-55 mph for most of the shore. Please allow yourself plenty of time for travel. We are located 2.5 hrs away from Norfolk (in normal traffic). We are 3.5-4 hrs away from Washington D.C. For those traveling from the south (Norfolk Area) there is a ~$16.00 toll to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.
