I loved everything about this trip. The setting was beautiful and serene, the lodging was very convenient, and the food was really delicious. The instructors were top notch, the classes were so interesting, and it was all organized so well. Plus I made some good friends with other participants while there. Just an outstanding experience.

The Recorder/Early Muisc program at the Hidden Valley Music Seminars was one of the best music workshops I have ever attended. The teacher were all excellent giving us much information, leadership and encouragement. The printed material from Hidden Valley was always relevant and welcome. However, the print material from Road Scholar about OTHER programs is excessive and irritating and I don’t see a way to stop it.

If you are an amateur musician of intermediate or above skill, and play the recorder, viol, curtal or shawm and are interested in playing new and challenging early music, this is a wonderful workshop for you. The excellent faculty combine their expertise, varied and effective teaching strategies and an appropriate level of music to make the time well spent learning and playing early music on period instruments.

I attended the second week and was in the early double reed classes. We played and performed beautiful music from the Spanish and Italian Renaissance on shawms, dulcians, and sackbuts in class. I recommend this workshop to other players of loud band music. Peter Braunfield
