If Road Scholar is arranging your air travel to and from the program, and you travel on the scheduled start and end dates, you’ll receive free round-trip transfers from the airport to the hotel.

Meet the group at Hotel Residence San Gregorio in Pienza

Start of Trip:  2:00 p.m. hotel check-in; 6:30 p.m. Orientation followed by Welcome Dinner.

Getting to the site: From the airport in Rome, take the Leonardo Express train to the Rome Termini station. Here, you will transfer to a train going to Chiusi-Chianciano Terme station. Train tickets will cost between 40-50 Euro, and the train trip will take about 2 hours. Buy your train tickets in advance at www.trenitalia.com/en.html. In Chiusi, take a taxi to the Hotel Residence San Gregorio in Pienza. This will cost about €30-40, and the ride will take about 40 minutes. A private car and driver from the Rome airport to the first hotel will cost approximately €500. You can book a private car and driver by contacting www.how2transfer.com.

Your trip ends on: Wednesday, October 29, 2025 in Montefalco at Camiano Piccolo Agriturismo

End of Trip: 10:00 a.m. after breakfast, 11:00 a.m. hotel check-out. Transfers throughout the day according to flight schedule.

Getting to the airport: Take a taxi from the hotel to the Foligno train station, then take a train to the Rome Termini station (train to Rome leaves every hour). The taxi will cost between 16 - 20 Euro and takes about 15 minutes. In Rome, transfer to the Leonardo Express train to the airport. Information if you are purchasing your own airfare: Transfers for Independent Travelers Road Scholar no longer offers complimentary transfers to participants with “Program Only” status. However, both the arrival and departure transfers on this program are an exception to that policy due to the distance and complicated nature of the transfers. If you are arriving early, departing later, or booked your own air, there is a possibility to reserve a seat on the group arrival and/or departure transfers. Please note that we will not have a Final Transfer Schedule until approx. 7 weeks prior to the program start date and it will be included in your Final Information Packet. Reservations can be made by contacting rseuropeprograms@roadscholar.org no later than 30 DAYS prior to the program start date. You MUST include your program number and date in the subject line of your request. If you arranged air on your own, please include your flight information with your transfer request. Transfer schedules are based on the times of arrival/departure for Road Scholar booked flights and will vary from departure to departure. If you are arranging your own air, we request that your ARRIVAL flight arrives no later than 9:30 a.m., and your DEPARTURE flight departs no earlier than 11:00 a.m. in order to ensure your flight will arrive/depart within the same time period as the flights arranged with RS. There is no guarantee that the final transfer schedule will coincide with independently booked flights. Please note: In the unlikely event Road Scholar must make changes to the program's arrival or departure details, we will notify all participants as soon as possible. Participants who have purchased Road Scholar airfare are protected against airline change fees; however, anyone who has not purchased Road Scholar airfare will be required to make their own adjustments and may incur fees imposed by the airline.
