Albania and Northern Macedonia are amazing, beautiful countries. I hesitated signing up because I don't love long van rides and I am not drawn to viewing endless ruins. The trip had plenty of both AND this was a great program. The places we visited were well selected, and yes, while there were plenty of ruins, to see them we went on gorgeous outings in lush hillsides with sheepherders and their flocks. Think, green, misty expanses with young wild flowers. Flutra, our guide is very professional , compassionate and experienced. Of my nineteen RS trips she rakes up with the top. She shared her stories and introduced us to others whose personal experiences told the history of their wonderful culture and turbulent history. Thank you RS, Flutra and this travel group for a great experience. Leslie

We were on the inaugural Albania/North Macedonia journey and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Our guide, Flutra, was kind, organized, and had a wonderful, understated sense of humor and passion for the area that she readily communicated to us. We saw magical little-visited rural areas with ruins or natural features that would have been jammed in more-touristed parts of Europe. It was fantastic to have a driver in the cities and on narrow mountain passes--we could enjoy the views without having to navigate hairpin turns. The history of this area, both ancient and modern, is fascinating and was well conveyed by our site-specific guides. We saw and learned a lot! Which is the reason for its four-star designation, rather than it being strictly physically demanding. It is clear that this part of the world is getting more and more visitors, as it deserves, but I would highly recommend taking this tour while there are still gems you can see without being overwhelmed by others who want to do the same. Also the food! A giant part of the culture that I long for even weeks later.
