Trieste is a wonderful place to experience the charm of living in an Italian city plus finding the unique multi-cultural character of this area. For several hundred years Trieste was governed as part of the Austria Hungry Empire. Thus, one can find the influence of Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and other Balkan countries.
The language school is excellent. Be prepared to walk about 150 steps up to the school, but there you will find teachers dedicated to helping you learn Italian as well as experiencing Trieste iconic locations .
The Road Scholar program includes extremely interesting trips into northern Italy’s Fruili region rich with a unique history including Roman, Byzantine, Lombard and Venetian influences.
Your program leader and tour guides will dazzle you with stories, art, history, cuisine and the wine making of this fabulous region.
I recommend this program!

This was my first Live and Learn experience, and it far exceeded my expectations. The immersive language classes, taught entirely in Italian, were both challenging and rewarding. The school director’s field trips made the destinations easy to understand and visit. The group leader’s tours were excellent, offering knowledgeable local guides helping me understand the rich and complex mix of cultures and access to less-crowded, fascinating places. Getting to know such a diverse group of fellow participants made the experience even more enjoyable, and we were able to plan outings based on our shared interests. Highly recommend!

Trieste was not a place that I knew very much about before we signed up for this trip, but now I cannot wait to go back. It was hard and we had to walk 130 steps to school every day, but it was just amazing. The field trips were amazing. The ferry took us to places like the beach or the castle or neighboring islands with great ease. Everything was right outside of our door including the Opera. It’s also a wine lovers paradise. If you want to do something different that you’re never going to forget, go to Trieste before everyone finds out about it! Hurry because the cruise ships are already coming.
