Living & Learning in Trieste: Independent Stay & Language Study

After you enroll, we’ll ask you to provide or update your personal information and preferences, which includes your health information, lodging and meal preferences for your program.

In particular for this Living and Learning program, we urge you to complete and submit the required forms as soon as possible. The Italian Language Proficiency Survey and Class Selection Form is required. This form must be completed and returned by email and can be found at the back of your FIRST Information Packet.

A passport is required for this program. It must be valid for at least 6 months after your return date.

This information about travel documents pertains to participants holding U.S. passports. Non-U.S. citizens should refer to their country's requirements to ensure they have the necessary documentation for travel.

If Road Scholar is arranging your air travel to and from the program, and you travel on the scheduled start and end dates, you’ll receive free round-trip transfers from the airport to the hotel.

Start of Trip:  2:00 p.m. hotel check-in; 4:30 p.m. Orientation followed by Welcome Dinner.

Getting to the site: Participants who purchased their airfare through Road Scholar and will arrive on the scheduled start date to the airport, will automatically be provided with a transfer from the airport to Trieste. Once you have collected luggage and passed through customs, your Group Leader or the driver will be waiting outside the ARRIVALS area, holding a Road Scholar sign. In case of a missed transfer, delays or lost luggage, contact your group leader immediately. If we do not see or hear from you within 60 minutes of your flight landing, you may risk missing your transfer. Participants who purchased their airfare through Road Scholar and who will arrive outside the designated arrival date due to pre-program arrangements (TCA) are eligible to take advantage of a group transfer from the designated airport to the starting location on the official arrival day of the program, provided they return to the airport, and make the request as outlined below. Program-only Participants who have not purchased airfare through Road Scholar (POPs) are eligible to take advantage of the group transfers on request. Flight details must be provided. Transfers from Venice airport to the start location will take place at approximately 09:30-10:30am and 2pm to 3pm on the arrival day (Day 2). You may have to wait for other participants to arrive at the airport before joining the transfer to the hotel. IMPORTANT: TCAs and POPs are required to request to join a transfer no later than 30 DAYS PRIOR to departure by calling Road Scholar at (800)-454-5768, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. ET. ***We are unable to arrange transfers if this information is not received in time*** If you want to make your own way from Venice to Trieste, you can take a train from Venice Marco Polo airport to Trieste Centrale. Your Group Leader will provide you with your specific transfer details at the end of the program. Participants who purchased their airfare through Road Scholar and will depart outside the designated departure date due to post program arrangements (TCA) are eligible to take advantage of a group transfer from the program’s ending location to the airport on the last scheduled day of the program, provided they make the request as outlined below. Participants who have not purchased airfare through Road Scholar (POPs) are also eligible to take advantage of the designated group transfers, on request. Flight details must be provided. Transfers from the end location to the airport will take place between approximately 4am and 9am on the last scheduled day of the program. You must be at the airport 3 hours prior to an international flight departure.
