This program lived up to its description: learning about the Mayan culture of the Yucatan Peninsula while exploring natural wonders like canyons, waterfalls, cenotes and wildlife preserves (flamingos and mangrove forests). We visited archaeological sites like Tulum, Chichen Itza and Uxmal and the new Chichen Itza museum. A lucky visit to Chamula gave us the opportunity to observe a traditional Mayan ceremony and mourning rituals. The accommodations were wonderful, and the route took us through several different climate zones and colorful towns. I will enjoy looking at my photos and reliving this program!

This experience complemented our previous Road Scholar tour to the Galapagos and Machu Picchu. On that tour we learned about the Incas. This tour filled in gaps in our understanding of Maya culture. And, as an extra bonus, we learned about post-contact Mayan exploitation and how the Maya people live today.

This is a wonderful and very full trip to explore this beautiful part of Mexico. We visited Mayan ruins but also small Mayan communities where they currently live. We had a diversity of activities including boat rides and a ride on the new Tren Maya. The group leaders were friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I highly recommend this trip for people interested in new experiences.

This was an extraordinary journey through history, culture and nature of a fascinating region. We were greeted by exuberant musicians and dancers upon arrival at the airport, and every day was an adventure. We visited famous archaeological sites and less familiar places of stunning natural beauty, as well encountering traditional Maya religion, craft and culinary traditions. Mountains, jungles and beach all featured in our itinerary, and we got to ride the lovely, brand-new Tren Maya for one segment of the trip.

Absolutely wonderful, informative and exceptional experience of Chiapas and Yucatan Mexico. A perfect blend of culture, history, archaeology and nature in one program with knowledgeable and charming group leaders. Kudos to RS for putting this program together, providing a unique experience of the Mayan culture that includes history, archaeology, art, music, pottery, crafts, food and nature! Outstanding in every way; as every day was delightful and filled with wonder!
