Road Scholar program really opened my eyes to the world I've never experienced before. It was very educational, fun, and felt safe at all times. I highly recommend.

Hi, The Taste of Costa Rica trip was very educational and exciting because I saw many new animals in the wild and the country of Costa Rica is really beautiful. I enjoyed all the activities especially the swinging bridges, tours of the cocoa, coffee and pineapple farms, home visits and the white water rafting. The the accommodations and food were for the most part fabulous. I am vegan and I was able to find good vegan options. The first night's hotel in San Jose was just fair but it did have a really nice restaurant. Our guide Katherine Rojas went above and beyond in addressing the groups needs, and always made it her priority to help us with any questions or special requests. For example she arranged for me and another group member to go Horseback riding in Monte Verde which was fantastic. I think Road Scholar is very fortunate to have someone like Katherine as a tour guide. She is very organized and is very knowledgable of Costa Rican customs and the wildlife found in the Rain Forests and mountains. She really did make the trip so enjoyable. Sincerely, Geri Cecilio

An awesome trip. Alvaro was an exceptional guide and wildlife finder. His viewing equipment with the scope that could be viewed on his phone and image enlarged was a game-changer. Food and home visits were excellent. I especially enjoyed Flory and Marzarella home visits—allowed us a temporary immersion into the lives of the people who live there. All of the hotels were exceptional-although poor hot water access and dysfunctional cooling system at Wyndham San Jose were less than ideal. I had a hotel employee set my thermostat to 69degrees-it was 78 in room when I arrived and 79 the next morning so no cooling at all. Our driver Esteban was a great driver and had fun personality. I especially enjoyed the Aranwa Sarapiqui Rain Forest lodge. The bungalows and wildlife viewing were fabulous. The dancing-both at the Campesina and the lessons at Aranwha were a fun and lively addition to the program. All of the activities-cloud forest, hanging bridges and white water rafting were fabulous. The shuttles were on time and drivers were friendly. All of the lectures were exceptional and topics relevant to my reasons for enjoying Costa Rica. I would love to see Road Scholar utilize hybrid or electric buses. Again, I can’t say enough great things about Alvaro as our fearless and patient leader-so knowledgeable about Costa Rica, its wildlife and traditions. I am especially grateful for the inclusion of the bat education and resource center-I believe it changed some minds in our group about their benefits for pollinating and insect control. GREAT TRIP!!!!!!

Our group leader, Katherine Rojas, shared her passion for and in-depth knowledge of Costa Rica, instilling in me a love for the country’s culture, intriguing wildlife, exotic plants, delicious food, myriad agricultural products, lush rain forests, majestic volcanos, and commitment to conservation and renewable energy. “A Taste of Costa Rica” with Katherine should be on everyone’s bucket list.

The Going Solo Costa Rica trip was stellar. Our tour leader Katherine was so knowledgeable about the culture, wild life, food and history, she helped us all appreciate our activities more fully. As she said, we were not just tourists, we were travelers seeking a deeper understanding of Costa Rica as well as an adventure. And who can beat a first day in the rain forest with a sighting of a mama sloth and her baby and a mated pair of toucans. Did I mention the howler monkeys? I can’t wait to go back.

I really enjoyed the "Taste of Costa Rica". Our guide was incredible and the views of plants and wildlife was amazing. I was on an all solo trip which I really enjoyed. Even though it was a very small group (11), we did so much and had lectures, performances and dance lessons. It was a great value for the cost!

This trip was incredible! Visiting with locals gave it such a personal touch, and ziplining was an unforgettable adventure (that was not on the itinerary but added in free time.)... (San Jose was my least favorite day.)... I would add the night hike to this trip itinerary. It was added in some free time by the hotel on request in Montverde. It was in my top favorites things to do in CR... Miss the ALL fruit and the coffee!! :-) I’d love to see even more "Go Solo" trips offered in the future! (Even in the US.) Miss seeing my new friends!

Suggest expanding to 5 levels of activity. This trip was too slow for my tastes

I loved the idea of a Solo only adventure. 18 strangers came together and within a day we were already connecting and building friendships. This tour was more than just a visit to sites A, B, and C. It was about experiences in a unique environment and sharing it with other like minded people you had just met. Will defititely keep in touch with members of this group.
