SHOWING
If all you've seen of New Orleans is photos of the French Quarter and Bourbon Street, this is the trip for you. There is so much more to see and know! Two bus tours (one of which is architectural) will acquaint you with the French and American historical districts, as well as the beautiful Garden District and much larger city outside of the French Quarter. You will visit a New Orleans cemetery, a sculpture park, the French Market, the Jazz Museum and the New Orleans Mint. Perhaps the crown jewel of this tour is a half day spent at the National World War II Museum, with its moving 4-D movie of the American experience in the war, as well as its many interactive displays, videos, and experiences ranging from a submarine attack on a convoy, to a train ride. Did you know that New Orleans produced ALL of the D-Day landing craft in World War II with its innovative bayou design? And of course the Road Scholar foodie experience, including beautiful breakfast buffets at the Hotel Monteleone, lunches that introduce New Orleans specialties like crawfish étouffé and shrimp gumbo, and a Cooking School dinner served with Bananas Foster and praline desserts. The Hotel Monteleone is a comfortable base of operations with excellent staff service, and our Solo Traveler group was ably led by Robin Roque.
