In the 20th century, Venice became a beacon of inspiration and passion for some of the most iconic women of the time. Among them was the eccentric Marquise Luisa Casati Stampa, who aspired to be a “living artwork.” Henriette Nigrin Fortuny was a muse and collaborator with her husband Mariano Fortuny, famed for their exquisite fabrics and dresses. Coco Chanel drew inspiration from the city's Byzantine allure, while Peggy Guggenheim played a pivotal role in shaping Venice's modern art scene. Lastly, Roberta di Camerino emerged as a major Italian fashion designer, leaving her mark from the 1950s well into the early 21st century. Cristina Gregorin, a Venice guide and lecturer since 1991, holds degrees in Italian history, art history, and a Ph.D. in contemporary German literature. Beyond her roles at the UNESCO Venice Office and the Council of Europe, she is also an author with a particular focus on Venice. In 2020, she published her first novel. With a deep love for literature, Cristina's approach to leading and lecturing is to weave stories that bring the rich history of Venice to life.
