At a Glance

In the 20th century, Venice became a beacon of inspiration and passion for some of the most iconic women of the time. Among them was the eccentric Marquise Luisa Casati Stampa, who aspired to be a “living artwork.” Henriette Nigrin Fortuny was a muse and collaborator with her husband Mariano Fortuny, famed for their exquisite fabrics and dresses. Coco Chanel drew inspiration from the city's Byzantine allure, while Peggy Guggenheim played a pivotal role in shaping Venice's modern art scene. Lastly, Roberta di Camerino emerged as a major Italian fashion designer, leaving her mark from the 1950s well into the early 21st century. Discover more about these women and Venice's influence on their work during this online lecture.
