Italy is a member of the Schengen Agreement, a set of European and national standards governing different types of visas. As a result of this agreement, Americans may visit the country for up to 90 days without a visa, provided they have a US passport valid for at least six months from the planned date of departure from the EU.

If Road Scholar is arranging your air travel to and from the program, and you travel on the scheduled start and end dates, you’ll receive free round-trip transfers from the airport to the hotel.

Getting to the site: To reach the program site from the airport on your own: At the information desk in the airport arrivals terminal, you can get the most updated train timetables. Please check Fiumicino Rome Airport website for more info: https://adr.it/web/aeroporti-di-roma-en/pax-fco-train 1st - Train - from Rome airport to Termini Train Station. The Leonardo express, non-stop service dedicated exclusively to airport passengers to/from Roma Termini with departures every 15 minutes and travel time of 32 minutes* The FL1 regional line trains from/to other Rome stations, with departures every 15 minutes on working days and every 30 minutes on weekends and holidays. 2nd - Train: from Rome Termini Train Station to Bagni di Tivoli train station. The train connects 3 hour and 7 days a week The ride is about 2.5 hours. Please visit www.trenitalia.it for more information. 3rd - Bus PE714 or PE716: from Bagni di Tivoli bus stop to Sulmona. 4th - The ride from the bus station in Sulmona to the Hotel Ovidius is about 3 minutes by car or 20 minutes' walk (0.9 miles). We cannot quote these services as they are public transportations.

End of Trip: 10:00 a.m. after breakfast; 11:00 a.m. hotel check-out.

Getting to the airport: The Isola Sacra Hotel provides bus shuttle every 30 minutes and 7 days a week from the hotel to Rome-Fiumicino airport. Reservation of the service should be made at the front desk. The cost is about € 8 per person. The ride is about 10 minutes. Taxi: The ride from the Isola Sacra Hotel in Fiumicino to Rome-Fiumicino Airport is about 10 minutes. We cannot quote these services as they are public transportations.

Information if you are purchasing your own airfare: Participants who have not purchased airfare through Road Scholar are eligible to take advantage of the designated transfers, on request. In order to be included in the transfers, participants must notify Road Scholar of their flight arrangements between 50 and 30 days prior to departure by calling 1-800-454-5768. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET. The meeting point at the arrival area of Rome-Fiumicino Airport (Terminal 3) is the green column #1 close to the entrance and next to the bar and the restrooms (see the attached map). Your site coordinator will be waiting in the arrival area holding a Road Scholar sign. If your flight is delayed or cancelled causing the flight to be outside of the designated transfer times, please contact your Group Leader.
