This was not a class, and there was no final exam. Just relax and enjoy what you learn!

I spent a most enjoyable week in Montreat learning about Italian Renaissance art. Our instructor, Laura, was outstanding. She had extensive knowledge of not only the art of the Renaissance, but also the political, economic, religious and societal changes. I wish that Road Scholar would have Laura teach another/different course on the Renaissance. I would sign up.

"Italian Renaissance" was my fifth RS trip to Montreat. The instructor, Laura--a former resident of Florence--did an energetic and thorough job of explaining the subject using colorful examples of art and architecture from Florence, Siena, and Venice. Her lectures brought life to the time period and left us wanting to know even more. Montreat is an easy drive from the Asheville airport and there are lots of small nearby towns to explore. Autumn in Western NC is worth the trip. The evening-entertainments are fun and interesting. The old stone "Assembly Inn" runs smoothly due to Tracy's ever-present gentle oversight. The buffet meals were good and had lots of options to choose from. Please buy some better pillows for the rooms, however.
