Check-in, Registration, Orientation, Welcome Dinner
Location:
Orlando, FL
Meals:
D
Stay:
Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort
Activity Note
Hotel check-in from 4:00 p.m. Remember to bring your nametag (sent previously).
Morning:
We are proud to announce that this program includes a 3-park 3-day pass to visit Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and the new Epic Universe. Within these three parks, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is divided in between Diagon Alley in Universal Studios, Hogsmeade in Islands of Adventure, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Ministry of Magic. The Hogwarts Express will bring you between them. When we go to the park, we’ll take the hotel shuttle that runs all day. Our tickets allow us to spend as much time as we like in the three parks on Days 2, 3, and 5. However, Epic Universe can only be visited on one of the days.
Afternoon:
Program Registration: 4:00 p.m. After you have your room assignment, come to the Road Scholar table to register with the program staff and get your welcome packet containing your name-tag, up-to-date schedule that reflects any last-minute changes, other important information, and to confirm when and where the Orientation session will take place. If you arrive late, please ask for your packet when you check in. Orientation: The Group Leader will greet and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date program schedule, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer questions. The Group Leader will also use this time to hand out vouchers for the meals eaten in the parks. This is a Road Scholar Grandparent program. Grandparents are responsible for their grandchildren. If/when separate age group activities are conducted concurrently, program staff will supervise. Children are never to be left unsupervised. Each theme park is very large and divided into multiple sections, making it very hard to find someone if they run off on their own. Periods in the daily schedule designated as “Free time” and “At leisure” offer opportunities to do what you like and make your experience even more meaningful and memorable according to your personal preferences. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions. Program activities, schedules, personnel, and indicated distances or times may change due to local circumstances/conditions. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.
Dinner:
At the hotel.
Evening:
Especially for kids: Everyone will get sorted into their “house.” Are you a Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin? The Sorting Hat will let you know. *Please note that your grandchild may be assigned to a house that would not be their preference as we try to keep the houses with even numbers. All of the houses have good qualities, and participation in their assigned house will only be for 5 days. Please encourage your grandchild to keep an open mind.* Through a series of cooperative activities throughout the week — from Quidditch to judging Butterbeer recipes, trivia, and more — each house will earn points to win prizes. Grandparents join the same house as their grandkids. Get to know the other members of your “house,” then settle in and get a good night’s rest for the fun that’s waiting for you! This will give us an advance look at everything before our workshops begin. Please note that early park admission is just for one park and it changes. As you get closer to your program date, the UO website has the most up to date information. It is up to the individual participant to determine if they need Universal Express Passes for their free time on the program. Express Passes are available for purchase through the Universal Orlando website as well as from Cabana Bay's on-site concierge. Express Passes grant the holder the ability to move to the front of the line at many Universal Orlando attractions in a single day. You may choose to purchase a pass that allows you skip the line once or you may choose one that allows you to skip multiple times. Please note that while many rides at Universal Orlando participate in Universal Express Pass – including Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey – Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure™ and Pteranodon Flyers do not currently participate.
Lunch:
Depending on the park we are visiting, we will either use meal passes at Three Broomsticks, Leaky Cauldron, Cafe L’air de La Sirène, or Le Gobelet Noir. Will you have pumpkin juice or Butterbeer?
Afternoon:
We’ll take a break from the sun and engage in a Harry Potter-related activity at the hotel. Seize the opportunity to win points for your house!
Dinner:
We will have meal passes valid at a selection of locations both in the park and at Universal’s CityWalk.
