Okay, the Dakotas are not the most exciting place on Earth, but this program will make it so! A wide variety of interests and locales are explored, with many local guides, some of whom act the role of a historical figure. I've never been on a tour where attention was paid to so much detail! So, don't fly over this region...join this program and gain an experience that will forever change your perspective of and appreciation for it.

If you want to experience breathtaking scenery, learn about Native American cultures, history from fossils to fracking, and breathe fresh air while having a 'bully' good time, this is the adventure for you.

On-line survey is a big improvement over the written one! :)

My first Road Scholar trip certainly lived up to its name, as it was the best! The Dakotas are full of interesting history, magnificent landscapes, and awesome animals. We were even fortunate enough to see an entire herd of buffalo at Custer State Park. Dianne and Scott, our Reed Travel tour guides, are knowledgeable, organized, thoughtful, and kind. I highly recommend this program.

The Dakotas will surprise you in what they have to offer. The Badlands are comparable to well-known, world-class places. Every day was filled with a variety of experiences. Tour leaders Greg and Dianne with Reed Travel are as good as it gets and added much to the overall experience.

This was only my 3rd trip. All three were wonderful. I asked others on this trip, some who have been on 20 or more trips,:Did you ever have a bad trip?" Never. I asked, "Do you remember people who were unpleasant?" "Hardly ever." In my 3 trips I never met someone I didn't like or who was unpleasant. This trip was a perfect blend of culture, history, science, the natural world, (the great outdoors)food and wonderful companions.

This program went beyond my expectations! We covered the geology, the mammoth site, the Native Americans of the area, the Lewis & Clark Expedition, the importance of the Missouri River, a power dam, state Capitols, national parks, art and more. The tour director was amazing and knowledgeable - truly a trip I won't forget.

I told a person before we went that we were going to the Dakotas. The response was why? That was sort of my thinking. But it was great. I really enjoyed learning about and seeing that part of the USA. I was surprised about how interesting it was. Well worth the time and exhaustion, after all I didn't go to just sit and vegetate.

I have taken many Road Scholar tours and this is at the top! There is so much to learn about two of our wonderful "fly over" states. This tour has to be advertised heavily...it is really great.

You will wonderfully surprise to take the time to travel through these two States and learn more about the historical background (from Native Americans to Lewis & Clark to State Capitols), great geology location in both No. & So. Dakota Badlands, and see the vast prairie land that makes up our beautiful Country.

Marilyn Hovland was the Program Director. Her son-in-law and daughter run Reed Travel Journeys, the program provider. From the first day to the last, you know that this family cares. For example, son-in-law and daughter had dinner with us on the days we were in Rapid City and interacted with us on an individual basis. As the bus pulled in to the hotel on the last day, they were standing there to welcome us back. Throughout the program Marilyn made sure that the long bus rides were not boring by presenting information about things we were going to see or had seen and by showing videos of things coming up. She also walked through the bus to chat with people. Periodically on the bus, she had "contests" to keep us enjoying the trip and not being bored. Beside Marilyn, I now have a good answer to the question "Why go to the Dakotas, there's nothing there?" The answer is that there is a great deal to see and do there and it is well worth the trip. Beside Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse, there is Theodore Roosevelt's cabin, the Famous Medora Musical, Oahe Dam, Minute Man Missile Visitor's Center, the active ongoing Mammoth excavation site, and more. This was one of my better Road Scholar experiences.

A great trip reminding me that there is much to see and good people to get to know right nearby in our USA!
