The Beartooth Mountains are amazing and I wouldn’t have know about that area if I hadn’t signed up for this incredible trip! So much beauty.

This is a hidden gem of a trip to one of the most unique and beautiful places I have ever experienced with Roads Scholar. The scenery is spectacular (most people have never heard of the Beartooth Mountains) and the Hunter Ranch is a place I will never forget. I am so thankful for all of it!

I just got home from the Road Scholar trip where we hiked in the Beartooth Mountains of Wyoming. This was an amazing trip and I highly recommend it! We did 2 short hikes each day totaling about 6 miles miles of hiking and up to 1000 feet of gain. All four of our guides were awesome and went above and beyond! Gene even helped another participant fix a problem with his car that had happened as he was traveling to the program! Our guides stopped a lot to tell us about various animals, birds, plants, trees, bear scat and prints, picture taking and breathing! I feel like a learned so much! Shelly is a fabulous host and the food at the ranch is amazing! We loved how remote the ranch was; we could hear elk bugling in the morning and see fog rising off the creek just outside the main doors to the lodge. The rooms are definitely rustic and you'll need to bring your own hair drier. But, in my opinion, all that adds to the relaxing mood of this trip!

Spectacular hiking on uncrowded trails; staying in a very special place with gracious hosts and delicious meals; a week completely 'unplugged'; wow!

This was one of the best hiking programs I have done at RS. The choice of trails was a good mixture of challenges - there were 2 each day with the option of bailing out after the first. This "bail out" option was a good feature. The bunk house accommodations were super - just a little chilly but a short walk to the main building for meals. Without a doubt, the meals (prepared by local owner Shelley) were the best I have had on any RS trip. The hikes varied from wooded trails loaded with wildflowers to barren walks above the tree line and with patches of snow. The non-hike speakers were a disappointment because 2 were no-shows. This would be an ideal program to arrive early in Cody and visit the Buffalo Bill Museum and the nightly rodeo. Overall an excellent program.

This program brought me closer to nature. The beauty became overwhelming at times. The trek could be rigorous but still manageable. The group leaders took good care of us, not only as teachers, but in managing to bring us all together as a trekking family.

This was a well put together hiking trip in a beautiful part of Wyoming. Good food, good hikes, good comradery with the leaders and participants. The ranch is a great spot and a small group was more personal and easier to get to know everyone.

The views on our hiking trip were breathtaking. Our guides/instructors were so knowledgable and interesting. I especially enjoyed seeing wildflowers, birds, and wildlife on our hikes and also on the spectacular drives to the trailheads.

My program was Hiking in the Beartooth Mountains of Wyoming. 4 days of hikes. 5 nights. small group, which makes it more cohesive and fun. in a remote location, high in the mountains, same bed every night. gorgeous scenery, a comfortable lodging, wonderful food prepared by one amazing woman. I,ve enjoyed 8 Road Scholar hiking trips and this is one of my three favorites.

A wonderful adventure hiking in the Beartooth & Absaroka Mountains with a small group. The amazingly beautiful hikes are varied and exhilarating but at a pace to allow breathing room. Jim, Gene, Joyce and Heidi are informative, knowledgeable leaders. Hunter Peak Ranch is clean, comfortable, spacious and with well prepared meals by Shelley. Great to stay in one place for the entire trip. Highly recommend this Road Scholar trip.

Hiking in the Beartooth Mountains far exceeded our expectations. Before this trip we knew little about the area, but the mountains and the scenery was stunning. We hiked in September, so we were never hot, there were no bugs, and the fall colors were starting to change. The streams were also at a lower level, so instead of using our water shoes everyone boulder hopped. Get in shape before going with walking and stair-climbing and plan on using trekking poles. (Just know you can't pack them in carry-ons.) The ranch and lodging was serene and comfortable and Shelley's cooking was delicious! Our RS leaders, Heidi and Joyce were amazing and our mountain guides, Jim and Gene, were a wealth of knowledge and information. If you love to hike consider this trip.

A memorable trip into the wilderness! Our guides shared their extensive knowledge throughout the hiking days and evening porch chats, created a fun atmosphere in this micro-group adventure, and led us through the wilderness both in hiking steps taken and in stories told. Hunter Peak Ranch had all the necessary comforts of home and excellent food every day, every meal. Being in the Yellowstone ecosystem, The Beartooth Mountains are often overlooked in favor of the more well-known areas nearby. I am so glad to have spent time here and hope to come back.

Fantastic program! The hikes were amazing, through areas I would not have felt comfortable navigating on my own. Our guide, on the other hand, was obviously very familiar with the trails and terrain. The lodging was exceptional, and our meals outstanding. Five stars all around.

Beartooth hiking is a great set of hikes in a beautiful setting, led by experienced and knowledgeable staff passionate about the local ecosystem. Hunter Peak ranch is a lovely off the grid facility with comfortable accommodates and great food. The leaders were the best I've seen in my three RS hikes. All in all, the trip exceeded my lofty expectations.

This is a great program. I was impressed with the food, lodging, our guide, Jim and our leaders Ann and Sue. The hikes were varied, interesting and fun. Jim's knowledge is nothing short of amazing. I learned so much about the area from him I also enjoyed all of the other participants and hearing about their past adventures. Each person added something special and memorable to the experience.

The trip is a great adventure into the Beartooth Mountain area. Our leader, Jim Gary, is an excellent resource for information about the area, wildlife and Native American history. Our leaders, Charlie and Mike were a great help and a lot of fun. Be prepared for no cell service, no internet and even no clocks while on this trip. Life is a lot simpler. Be sure to bring bug spray for mosquitoes, suntan lotion, shampoo, rain gear (also great from windy days), gloves, hat, and water shoes or sandals (to cross small streams). These items are not mentioned in the documents. Shelly is a great host and cook. The accommodations are excellent. A great way to enjoy a cool summer vacation.

This was a great hiking trip to the Absakora-Beartooth mountain range. Staying at Hunter Peak Ranch was a delight--the food was delicious and the leaders helped make this a really satisfying week. The hikes were beautiful and it was a treat to spend time with Jim Garry, who has a wealth of knowledge of the history, culture, and geography of this area.
