Keep in mind taxi services from Norfolk to the Island are hard to come by and expensive due to the distance. It is also helpful to have a car during your stay since there is no public transportation or ride share services on Chincoteague.

All points north or south

You will be traveling either north or south on Rte. 13. Turn east at the Rte. 175 stoplight in Oak Hall, Virginia. You won't mistake the direction, as there is only one way to turn (except a store on the other side). Landmarks at the stoplight are T's Corner gas station & store, Sonic drive-through, Food Lion on the east and a couple of small stores on the west side of the road. If you accidentally turn into the Food Lion parking lot, simply head left and turn right onto Rte. 175 from the side of the parking lot. Rt 175 will bring you right onto Chincoteague Island. Your hotel will be on the left in approximately 1.25 miles.

Chincoteague Island

The weather on Chincoteague Island is seasonal. In the spring and fall, it is usually cool in the early morning and evening, but warms up nicely during the day. Throughout the summer, expect it to be warm or hot.
