This trip provided ample time on the water and land to learn about the islands and view the many animals and beautiful sites of the area.

This is an excellent program: the leader was one of the best, the San Juan Islands were lovely and interesting, and there was a nice mix of time on the water and time ashore. The leader was one of the best. Instructors were local, knowledgeable, and good presenters, from wildlife experts to the manager of a salmon hatchery--who would have thought? The Chinook's crew were skilled and welcoming--this program is a winner.

Kevin was an outstanding leader. The program was well organized and I learned a lot or interesting things about orcas, chinook, and the history of the San Juan Islands. It's a beautiful setting and cruising the island for three days was enjoyable. I wish we'd seen orcas, but that's the luck of the draw. We did have a number of good sightings of a humpback.

There is a natural beauty in the San Juan Islands, gems in the sea, but don't expect spectacular sights. Some other RS adventures are better visually. Whale watching is a novel experience if you are lucky enough to see whales. We were lucky and saw whales on all three days spent on the boat. Be aware that there is competition on the boat for good viewing positions. You may want to join the crowd on the forward deck where the breeze can be cool. Bring a wind breaker jacket and binoculars. The boat captain was very knowledgeable and was as helpful as the tour guide. Some walking is required for the land portion of the tour, but a shuttle was provided between the boat dock and the hotel. One member of the group had difficulty walking, but he was able to participate in all of the activities. The history of the San Juan Islands is interesting, and it is a novel experience to see how people have adapted to island life that is dependent on boats and ferries. Food at the hotel was prepared specially for us by a local chef, and food on the boat also was good. I enjoyed this RS tour, and I rate it as one of the better ones.

This was a fabulous trip, fantastic whale and other wildlife sightings, loved the culture in the cities, can't say enough good things about our tour leader Kevin and boat captain Dale! The crew aboard boat Tova and Grace cooked great meals for us and were most accommodating! Loved it!!

This was my 1st time at San Juan Islands & this RS tour was wonderful, met all my expectations. Our tour leader Kevin was a delight & very knowledgeable about his home. Meals prepared by our Chef Frank were delicious, healthy & made with local ingredients. The beauty of the islands is magical. We were very fortunate to see many Orcas during the three days on our private boat. The boat Captain & his crew were wonderful, friendly & very informative. I definitely recommend this tour!

What an excellent trip! I've never been to this part of the U.S. And loved it! The Chinook boat was awesome! Loved having Dungess Crab for a meal! Seals, Eagles, sealions, and more than one type of whale was seen. Exploring in Friday Harbor was fun. Just enough free time to do something on your own. A trip to Roche Resort was enjoyed by all and learning about the use of lime was new to me. Our guide, Kevin was very knowledgable and friendly-he loved his job.Seafood to eat was delicious and plenty of choices. Our weather was fantastic!

The San Juan Island trip was a wonderful tour including 3 days of boat travel thru the islands seeing small coves and wildlife. The weather in the protective islands was very comfortable and the guides were all friendly and knowledgable.

Once again, I have traveled to a place that I had never been and had very little knowledge of. And you have changed all that. The program was a good mix of boat, bus and foot travel. Our group of 23 or 24 was a good size and you could easily get acquainted with everyone. The expert speakers were just that...and entertaining too. I have already recommended this trip to many friends. Thank you!

On a 1 to 10 scale this program was a 12. Very well put together and administered. It was truly a joy to experience the islands and wildlife. Kevin did a masterful job keeping all of us entertained. Highly recommend this to tour to everyone. Mike

This was a wonderful program that had a lot of outdoor time, but was not particularly strenuous. Even though it was quite cold at times, the weather was fantastic, and trip leader Kevin was knowledgeable and friendly. The days on the yacht were fantastic -- the crew was adept at finding whales and other critters to watch. Suggest adding a day in Seattle at the beginning or end of the trip.

A great program which fulfilled a wish on my "Bucket List". I have contributed recently to Road Scholar and in the past to Elderhostel.

This was our first Road scholar trip. Linda and I had never been on a group trip vacation before so we were both pleasantly surprised at how wonderful this trip turned out to be. The accommodations, the food and most of all Kevin and his staff, all were superb. The seven days, at sea on land and in various museums, seemed like three vacations rolled into one . On top of everything else we met so many wonderful people and made some new friends. Thank You Road Scholar

Seeing the San Juan Islands on both land and sea was a wonderful combination. Our weather was gloriously sunny and temperate the entire time. Our tour leader, Kevin Culmback was organized, flexible in adapting to scheduling changes or food preferences, helpful, knowledgeable, and had a wonderful sense of humor. The crew aboard the privately leased boat, the Chinook, was very attentive and able to make some special breakfasts and lunches for our group of 38. Our presenters were informative and passionate about their subjects. The meals included in our program were very hearty. The hotel accommodations were spacious and very well located within walking distance of many services and attractions. The sculpture gardens, Whale Museum, and scoot coupe rental for riding around San Juan Island were special highlights of this trip.

This is a not to be missed destination. The San Juan Islands are spectacular, beautiful unspoiled shorelines, lots of wildlife and interesting, friendly people. The field trips are very interesting and the lectures were topical and fascinating. The accommodations are not 4 star, but comfortable, clean, and more than adequate for exploring this delightful part of the USA.

This is a well worth while program if you have any interest in nature and preservation of it. It is not for those who are unable to get around easily as we were on walks over rough terrain. It was fun and educational.
