After you enroll, we’ll ask you to provide or update your personal information and preferences, which includes your health information, lodging and meal preferences for your program.

A passport is required for this program. It must be valid for at least 6 months after your return date.

As of December 2021, fully vaccinated (including the booster) travelers coming from the United States can enter France with proof of vaccination. Road Scholar monitors all requirements for entering foreign countries and returning to the U.S., including any necessary COVID-19 testing. Your Group Leader will be aware of and will assist you with complying with any requirements that may be in effect at the time of your program and will facilitate any necessary testing if required during the program as well as required to return to the U.S.

If Road Scholar is arranging your air travel to and from the program, and you travel on the scheduled start and end dates, you’ll receive free round-trip transfers from the airport to the hotel.

Meet the group at Novotel Avignon Centre in Avignon

Start of Trip:  3:00 p.m. hotel check-in; 5:30 p.m. Orientation followed by Welcome Dinner.

Getting to the site: Participants who booked their air through Road Scholar will be provided with an arrival transfer if arriving on the group arrival date. Participants who do not arrive on the group arrival date or who are POP (Program Only Participant) status, are responsible for their own transportation to the first location. Taxis are readily available outside of Terminal 1. After collecting your belongings, follow signs to the taxi area where there will likely be an attendant to direct you to a cab. The cost of a taxi is approximately 180-220€ one way, excluding supplemental charges for luggage, toll fees, etc. The drive takes about 1 hour. Another option is to take a free airport shuttle to the Vitrolles Airport Train Station. The shuttle stop is located outside of Terminal 1 on the ground level. Follow signs to Bus Station (Gare Routiere) and go to platform 5. Wait time ranges from 10-15 minutes, and the journey to the train station takes about 5 minutes. From the train station, take a train to Avignon-Centre. One-way tickets cost about 19€ and the ride is approximately 1 hour. Tickets may be purchased in advance online at https://www.ter.sncf.com/paca/horaires/recherche or at the airport or train station from a SNCF Ticket Office or at a SNCF vending machine.

End of Trip: 9:00 a.m. after breakfast; 12:00 Noon hotel check-out.

Getting to the airport: Participants who booked their air through Road Scholar will be provided with a departure transfer if departing on the group departure date. The group leader will let you know the exact time of your transfer during the program. Participants who do not depart on the group departure date or who are POP (Program Only Participant), are responsible for their own transportation from the last location.

Information if you are purchasing your own airfare: Participants who have not purchased airfare through Road Scholar are responsible for making their own transfer arrangements to the first site at the beginning of the program, as well as from the last site at the end of the program. The Information Packet Road Scholar sends in advance of the program includes details needed to make your transfer arrangements. Please note: In the unlikely event Road Scholar must make changes to the program's arrival or departure details, we will notify all participants as soon as possible. Participants who have purchased Road Scholar airfare are protected against airline change fees; however, anyone who has not purchased Road Scholar airfare will be required to make their own adjustments and may incur fees imposed by the airline.
