I attended the October 2019 “Hiking the Redwoods” trip. The Redwoods are truly amazing! It was a wonderful experience. Our group leaders, Collin & John, did a great job. Their knowledge of not only the Coastal Redwoods but also of the Northern California coast made the trip so very interesting. This was my first trip with Road Scholar as a single. No worries! We had a great group!

You won't believe the beauty of the redwoods! Take this trip and smell the redwoods and listen to their story. Each footstep on the beautiful trails takes you on quite a historical and beautiful journey.

I attended in Oct 2019 in Eureka, CA “Hiking theRedwoods”. From first contact to session completion, Road Scholar was a wonderful experience. It was everything (and more!) than I hoped for. Please attend a program. It is really awesome!

Excellent hiking trip through the beautiful coastal redwood forests of northwest California. Outstanding, fun and enthusiastic instructors and group leaders, fascinating stories about the natural and cultural history of the region, and a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the tallest trees in the world! Ours was a small group of 12. The weather in early June was (surprisingly) excellent: sunny, warm, and morning fog. Hikes were modest in length. Field trips to downtown Ferndale and Eureka were a welcome diversity to the trip. A very good time!

Spending time among the magnificent Redwoods was a spiritual experience. After attending this program, I understand the importance of preserving our world for future generations, and allowing them to experience the power of nature. I learned so much about the ecosystem that exists among the redwood forests and the enormous diversity of birds, bugs and organisms that exist among those towering trees. A life changing week!

I attended this wonderful program 2 years ago and returned this year to discover the leaders created an even more fantastic program. The program has a variety of learning experiences set at an appropriate pace. John is an outstanding program naturalist with a passion for the area and Collin is an energetic leader.

My first Roads trip. It was GREAT! Find it hard to believe there are any better group leaders than those we had. Will be looking for my next adventure!

The redwoods and group leaders exceeded expectations, and the group was the best (they’ve all been good) so far.

I love hiking, but I also like a little variety, and this trip had it all. It was incredible how much our leaders packed into this trip, interesting, fun, delightful, but still all at a relaxed pace. The hikes were not overly strenuous, the scenery spectacular, both in the forest and on the beach, and I liked the fact that there was always time to stop and take pictures or examine something interesting, whether it was a banana slug, a colorful mushroom or a giant burl on a redwood. Having four leaders was a plus, and they were outstanding. This was one of my best trips ever, and I've done many with Road Scholar.

This is a wonderful hiking experience and very informative about the Redwoods and other activities in the Northwest.

At the heart of this trip are the stunning California Redwoods and the quiet hikes on soft forest trails, as well as walks at Trinidad Beach. But trips to Humboldt Bay's harbor of fishing boats and the historical tour of old Eureka were bonuses. Our group of 22 was led by four outstanding guides who know the area inside out -- and have a kidding rapport which made the trip even more fun. We hiked at least 5 miles per day, but the trails are fairly level and the pace moderate with stops along the way. Accommodations and meals at the Red Lion Eureka were very good. Definitely a five-star Road Scholar trip!

I had a fabulous time. I was a little hesitant going by myself but needn't of worried because most of the other participants were also traveling alone. Collin, John, T and Sue were the best at taking care of our needs and educating us about the trees, plants, mammals etc., We even got a lesson on crabbing and fishing from Collin. The food was good and plentiful. The hotel was o.k. Not outstanding but then they are catering to a lot of coach trips. There was a great sense of comradely and humor within the group and by the leaders. I made lots of contacts for future trips. I would recommend this trip to anyone who likes to be active and take manageable hikes. The only negative is that perhaps they should move the Art talk to another evening as we were all having a hard time staying awake after a long day on the road. Perhaps put it earlier in the week. Also there was not much down time when we got back to the hotel. Maybe an hour. Other than that I thank the group leaders for a wonderful week and look forward to another Road Scholar trip. Best Regards, Judith

Not only were the Redwoods awesome, our team leaders (Collin, John, T, and Sue) were truly amazing. The mutual respect, humor, and synergy was contagious. The group was also extremely compatible which made the whole experience quite spectacular. We would highly recommend this trip!

The variety of this program goes far beyond the awe inspiring spiritual beauty of “Hiking in the Redwoods.” John Ford, the educational guide lead us through the history of Eureka with the addition bonus of walks on the beach at Patrick’s Point and Trinidad beach. It was a spectacular educational program!

John Ford and Collin Ficcadenti, along with T and Sue, collaborated to offer exposure not only to the Redwoods but the area’s history and culture. The biodiversity of the forests and oceans were presented well and unique extra opportunities like a silent walk enhanced the experience.

I had been to John Muir woods years ago, but wanted to spend more time with the trees. I highly recommend this trip. Besides the extensive information on the trees, we absorbed facts about the local area. The time we spent in Eureka learning its history and present day status was well worth it. I especially appreciated the option to walk silently among the trees. In a nutshell, WOW!

Had a wonderful excursion to the redwoods. The only thing that I did not find professional was whe. The lady volunteer took a seat at the closest picnic table leaving a disabled man to walk a distance to an other table

Good trip, I would recommend it and do it again myself. Spectacular scenery, both redwoods and coast. The hiking was slightly less active the first two days, but built to days 3-4. The team put a lot of thought into the activities, food, and information. They have silent hiking portions where it is you and the woods, excellent. I would consider a program with Collin & John a plus!
