As the middle generation "parent" in the multigeneration tour: "Lion, Hippos, and Zebras - Oh My!", I was a little nervous about taking a tour vs my more typical independent travel. There is no way to do everything that this tour offers on your own in the same amount of time. This tour offers so many more interactive elements for the kids than other safari's that I researched. Overall, it was great!
The group tour - in the bus - made it possible. The grandparents in our group were fantastic! They have all been on multiple road scholar trips and had such interesting backgrounds: professors, academic authors, etc. My kids felt like they had a lot of grandparents! (They would even pass food over for my son who has a huge appetite, joke with them and one even offered my son some change to heal him seal a deal in market haggle.)
If I were to do this tour again - I would not bring winter coats. They provide thick blankets on the safari drives and the coats were not needed for more than 2 minute walk after dinner to the hotel room for 3 days. It was not worth taking up half a suitcase for how little they were used! I would also bring about $50 of U.S. singles for markets. I had too many $5 bills - which make it much harder to haggle. We also bought the custom group shirts for $45/shirt - cash only. ATMs are hard to find on this trip - bring lots of cash in small bills!

My partner and two teens, along with my sister and her partner and two teens, and my mother went on this trip to celebrate and commemorate the passing of my father. We had an incredible experience and we appreciated that Road Scholar took care of all of the travel arrangements and details. Furthermore, Road Scholar does an superlative job of making the trip relevant, interesting, and accessible across generations.

Exceeded my expectations. Leader was thoroughly knowledgeable and enhanced the program. Definitely a "must do" for anyone entertaining a visit to Africa.

Our trip to Africa was life changing. Lisa Reed was our guide and she made the experience fun, educational, and was a delight to travel with. People have asked if we were afraid at any time and the answer is absolutely not. We were safe at all times because we obeyed the guide. The food was incredible and we ate like we had been starving. The visits with the school and orphanage were especially meaningful. We would all go back again.

Traveling through Africa was a trip of a lifetime! Every moment was an adventure, from the warmth of the people to the unforgettable animals. Lisa, our leader, became part of our family. Everything was breathtaking.

We took 13 family members, including two teens. Every person (especially the teens) declared this the best trip ever. From the game drives at the reserve at African Hills and the Chobe National Park in Botswana to the cruises on the Chobe and Zambezi rivers, we were constantly being astounded with the variety of wildlife. We saw all the big 5 and much more. The final icing on the trip was Victoria Falls. None of us were ever tired of exploring. I say, go!!

Great trip. Keith Chisnall is the best of the best as a group leader. Fabulous time.

I highly recommend this program, it was amazing for me and my grandson to see the safari animals. We learned new information about the animals and the history of the countries visited. My grandson also made new friends.
