As a life west coaster, it was time to take a deep dive into the early beginnings of my country. Wow! Did I get what I bargained for. There is just something about spending close to a week that really brings home the random and purposeful acts that have moved us through the development of our triumphs and struggles as a country. Well done Road Scholar!

For me, this was the right program at the right time. Hearing about the struggles our earliest citizens went through to hammer out a new "united" nation out of 13 contentious colonies was inspiring. The program was well-designed, and our group leader, Bunnie Rich, was exemplary in every way. Thank you, Road Scholar, I look forward to another trip one of these days! Mary

Wonderful educational experience on the evolution of our country. Road Scholar dwells deeply into the life and times of the people, politics and life style of the 17th and 18th century. All who attend, will understand the motivational thread for the pursuit of freedom and the democratic dream which persists today.

From Colony to Revolution: Jamestown, Williamsburg, Yorktown. This particular program is second to none. The beautiful area of Virginia, the town of Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown is something to see in the spring. The knowledge of the staff is absolutely outstanding, organization is impeccable and the vast amounts of historical landmarks/buildings/fields and museums to see is mind blowing. If you are interested in Colonial America: this program is a MUST!!

This was my 10th Road Scholar program and it was simply superb. Our study leader Bunny was warm, funny, and beyond knowledgeable. She is a native of the area and knows everyone and everyone loves and respects her. We had a full schedule everyday and our tour and discussion leaders were also A+ in every way. I already knew much about colonial America, but believe me, I learned so much more. I was sad to leave at the end of the week. You won’t regret doing this program.

From Colony to Revolution is, without a doubt, the best history lesson I have had since high school. If you like history, you will love this program. If you don't care much for history, you will still love this program.

We have done about a dozen Road Scholar adventures and this latest was the best trek yet, with fascinating venues and lecturers, a wonderful leader in the remarkable Robin Rocque, warm and comfortable accommodations and, best of all, an extraordinary group of fun fellow travelers to learn with. We found it all fascinating and have been inspired to continue reading and learning on our own. While we were sorry to see the week end, we hope to meet up with some of these new friends again somewhere down the road.

It was a good educational Road Scholar Program. Bunny, our leader was great. The meals at the Hilton Doubletree in Williamsburg were high in sodium. They should have been more aware that many Seniors shouldn’t be eating high sodium foods. The breakfasts were all the same….too bad there wasn’t a little variation. I would suggest a different Hotel for future programs.

Randy – Class of 2015 | Calabasas, CA
April was a terrific time to experience Virginia, with nice weather and lots of spring flowers. Our group size was 26 - not too bad. There were lots of lectures and performances of such variety -- archaeology, history, women, natives, and Blacks in colonial times, music and unique musical instruments, and lots of details that were new to me. However, too much time was spent in the conference room listening to these presentations every morning up until lunchtime. The duration of these lectures should be reduced and more time spent in the field. The hotel is located over 3 miles from Williamsburg, which is majorly inconvenient to those without a car (like me). However, public transportation is cheap and easy to figure out. Also, Doubletree Hotel has great cookies!

Barbara – Class of 2014 | Omaha, NE
The educational aspect of this program was excellent! The lectures, reenactors and musicians were fabulous. Unfortunately, with a group of 35, w spent a lot of time waiting. The hotel was 4 miles away from Colonial Williamsburg so transportation during free time was problematic. If those issues are worked out, I'd give this program 5 plus stars!

This Road Scholar Program, From Colony to Revolution: Jamestown, Williamsburg, Yorktown is very informative and well-presented. The Group Leader, Bunny Rich is exceptionally knowledgeable and personable. The presenters, especially the interpretive actors Marci Tucker, Kate Tilley and musician Stephen Christoff were top-knotch. I would recommend this program to any one who wishes to enhance his/her knowledge about our early years as a Republic.
