I really enjoyed learning about Gettysburg, Antietam and Harpers Ferry: the geography, the history of the town, the 3 days of the Civil War on this trip. We also learned about books, movies, music, art related to Gettysburg and even got to walk around the 42 by 350 foot cyclorama about Day 1 of the War. HIGHLY recommend this trip!

Go back in time and experience the Battles of Gettysburg and Harpers Ferry. The guides enriched my life, my knowledge and desire to continue to learn more about the Civil War.

Dear Road Scholar,
This is my third extended visit to the battlefields.
I think that this package and itinerary is a good primer for the battle. Seeing the Harper’s Ferry, Sharpsburg and Gettysburg battlefields was a treat for all. I would have preferred to spend more time at Sharpsburg and actually walk to what has become to be known as Burnsides Bridge. Mark was an outstanding host. Organized and well spoken. Brad Gottfried was knowledgeable and pleasant. He was a bit dry and in my estimation spoke over the heads of many of the other participants. I have been persistently reading about the battle since boyhood, so much of what he discussed with us was remedial to me. Having said that I do understand that Brad must consider a spectrum of knowledge from all of the Road Scholar participants. Out of the 20 participants in my estimation there were four participants to have advanced knowledge of the three battles. Rich Kohr is something special. What an amazing wealth of detailed knowledge. He has a historians mind. If you cannot support the rumor it then it must called into question. Excellent Guide! Sharing his personal collection of battlefield items helped to bring the battle and tactical execution alive. Rich was engaging and fielded both remedial and more detailed questions with deft, full engagement, and at times good humor. Our musical host was an amazing talent sharing period accurate music. He could have gone on a longer time with us in my view. Perhaps another thirty minutes. The Historic Gettysburg Hotel was generally a good lodging location.
The bar offered a nice mix of draught beers and cocktails. Having a full service Starbucks was a welcome addition. Having the coffee you drink at home makes the mornings on the road a bit nicer. The food was basic but a bit underwhelming. Food safety is apparently inordinately high on the minds of the cooks. Chicken was nowhere near underdone. More chalk like. Beef was a mixed bag. Some were medium others were GRAY.

I can pretty much guarantee you will learn something, and I believe you will also appreciate the commitment of each staff member to attend to the needs and interests of every participant as much as possible

If you are interested in learning about the civil war this is a great program. Great instructors and so knowledgeable about ever aspect of the war. One really nice part covered in the program was about how the war effected the population of the Gettysburg and the surrounding area. Learning about the aftermath gave a real personal touch to the war.

The Three Civil War Battlefields tour was absolutely wonderful. The guides and group leader were excellent. Location of our accommodations at the historic Gettysburg Hotel were great. Transportation was just fine. This really ticked-off a bucket list item in grand style.

Coming from only two hours away, I have visited Gettysburg several times. I have taken tours offered by the visit center, but this was amazing.
The Gettysburg Hotel is wonderful. My room was comfortable, the food excellent and hotel staff so very friendly.
Mark our leader was very knowledgeable.
The speakers and entertainment great. All of our battlefield guides were very informative.
My perspective of Gettysburg battle has been expanded and the insights of Antietam and Harpers Ferry were very beneficial.
A great trip with wonderful people.

My husband i completed this trip last week. We both enjoyed it. I have to even say I enjoyed it more than I thought I would Mark, our host guide was great and the guides we had for the battlefield tours were also great. My only disappointment was that we were not able to spend more time in Harpers Ferry and I felt that we could have spent a little less time at Antietam.
We stayed at the Gettysburg Hotel which was awesome. The food, service and room were all wonderful.
All in all, it was a very nice trip and we met some very nice people.
Thank you, Road Scholar, for a job well done.

You may have read one or more books on the Gettysburg battle. However, you WILL gain a very much better understanding of how the battle progressed as well the impact of the topography and the personalities involved if you attend a Road Scholar program!

We had been to Gettysburg before and thought this would be a ho-hum trip. I WAS WRONG! I learned more in five days about the War of Rebellion than I thought possible. The presenters were great, the hotel was superior and all participants congenial.

This program to Gettysburg, Harper's Ferry & Antietem is so well paced that that grasping the battles and their effect on the outcome of the Civil War is easy and not overwhelming.

Very informative and educational. You should “buff-up “ on your civil war era and history. This will definitely increase the value of this trip. Read at least a couple of the recommended books , more if you have the time. This is undoubtedly a learning experience and not a “ sight seeing tour.

This was my best trip by far! Even the more knowledgeable people on our trip learned something new about the battlefields. The local experts who were with us throughout the program really know their stuff - and it shows.

If you are interested in the Nattle of Gettysburg, this program is for you. Better than that, it adds in Harper’s Ferry and Antietam and shows their relevance to why Gettysburg happened. However, this program doesn’t forget the people who lived in these areas and their experiences with a Gettysburg town tour, the Shriver House and the family’s losses and the museum at the Seminary highlighting the hospitals that popped up around town. Our program leader lives in Gettysburg and knew a lot of extra things about the area that was helpful. We were very pleased with this tour.

Sharing my love of history with new found kindred spirits developed into a fascinating 5 day tour through Harpers Ferry, Anteitem & Gettysburgh National Parks. I highly recommend.

Program is great for Civil War scholar, novice and pacifist covering many aspects beyond the battle itself and the before, during and after perspective. It brings history alive and relevant to important issues of our times.
