The scenery was spectacular and we were lucky to have wonderful weather almost everyday. Lodgings were nice and convenient, food on the whole was pretty good. The pace was just right for novice walker/hiker. Some days we hiked longer and some days we had short hikes, so there will be time to recover. Our guide was friendly, funny and easygoing. He tried to give us the best experience and changed the schedule around a bit based on the weather forecast, which we all appreciated. Local guides were knowledgeable. Walking poles will help but not needed for people who hike often. The guide sometimes gave us partial-day itinerary, so a few times I was a bit lost about what we will be doing or where we are meeting for lunch, dinner.... It would be helpful if he can give us the whole day itinerary all at once the night before. We did not get to go to the ice cave because the cable car were closed for the season, as a substitute we went to a high altitude lake. We took 2 funiculars and a small train to get there, it was fun and the area was beautiful! The highlight was the gondola up Chamonix, the scenery up on top was amazing, but cold. This was a wonderful trip and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

A well organized program with interesting guides and awesome views on the hikes. The hikes were just right for being challenged and feeling invigorated but not exhausting for someone who is used to hiking as a form of exercise. The small group made it easy to get to know everyone and enjoy the camaraderie. Our group leader, Osiris, was knowledgable and fun to be with! A fabulous trip and good value.

We really enjoyed this trip. This area of the Alps is lovely and we enjoyed experience life in mountain villages. The hiking was vigorous, but not dangerous or intimidating. Our group was friendly, entertaining and cohesive. the Group Leader was exceptional.

Long after you have forgotten the facts heard on your trip you will remember how you felt about the experience and the people you met. Road Scholar left me with great feelings for both.

The hikes on this program exposed us to stunning scenery. A very satisfying, active program with wonderful guides. You need to really be walking in the Alps to fully appreciate their grandeur.

The trip was awesome and exceeded our expectations! You experience hikes in the Alps starting in Switzerland with rolling farmlands among the cows, wonderful Fontina cheese fondue, introductory to the land formations and the Swiss culture. Crossing into Italy over the St. Bernard Pass brings you to the lovely town of Cogne. We fell in love with Cogne and the hospitality of the people in town and at our hotel. The hikes were beautiful and exhilarating. Seeing Mont Blanc from the Italian side and learning about the glaciers when we were in Chamonix is very pertinent to the climate change information we now have. Chamonix is a village that offers many things to see and do. It is a beautiful alpine area just like you see in the pictures. The cable car ride is exciting and leads you up the face of the mountain. Mont Blanc is there to see in all its glory. The trip to the La Mer glacier and ice cave was very interesting. Our group leader, Marta, was outstanding. Marta knows how to navigate through any situation with her knowledge, personality and experience. Our group enjoyed her humor and the compassion she has for her job. Marta is an asset to this trip which is already great. We highly recommend this trip to people who enjoy being active and want to enjoy a European hiking experience. Bev and Charlie

This is an amazing trip if you like mountains, hiking and great food! The scenery was breathtaking and it was wonderful to be immersed in the local culture of every village or town that we visited in Switzerland, Italy and France. Our tour guide Marta was outstanding and she made sure we totally enjoyed every aspect of this trip!

We couldn't complete this trip because my husband had a medical emergency on the second day of the trip. Hopefully that will not ever happen to you, but if it should, Road Scholar gave us excellent assistance and service in dealing with the emergency. Our trip leader Marta was fantastic in being supportive and taking care of a lot of details for us. Regardless of what happens on your trip, you are in good hands with Road Scholar.

We've just finished this hiking trip in the Alps. One of the best trips we've done with RS. Beware, it is a challenging hike! Bring your sticks and good hiking boots...and be sure you are in shape. Marta, our group leader, was exceptional - we would follow her anywhere. We were lucky with the weather - would be terribly disappointing to do this trip and not be able to see the mountains. We were glad we went in early Sept because many of the places we went were closing down for a month before the ski season started. Something to think about if you are planning a trip.

This trip far exceeded my expectations! Loved the all-women's small group. Hotels were great, food was delicious, the small villages were endearing and beautiful, the hikes and hiking guides were awesome, and all the extra experiences along the way were so much fun. (While the hikes are moderate, one does need to be in good physical condition for ascents and descents, some rugged trails, and varying weather conditions to fully participate and enjoy them.) The group of people on this trip was one of the best I have been with on a group experience. And, of course, the beauty of the Alps and the Alpine Meadows is breathtaking. I especially adored the Alpine cows and their melodious bells. Everything about this trip is great! It was a memorable experience!!

This program far exceeded my expectations. I was astonished at how Road Scholar focused on every detail of our experience and made it seamless, educational, fun, comfortable and deeply enjoyable. I was so impressed by how much planning went I to just this one program and I can’t even begin to imagine how Road Scholar can have so many programs going at the same time across the world, and yet have never heard a negative word about anything! Truly admirable!

This trip many times can be rigorous with steep descends and ascends many days. At least half the time , you are in one group. If you are not in very good health physically shape, have knee problems, have difficulty making long ascends and descends with rocks,, this trip is not for you. Sticks are definitely recommended. Pack for all weather possibilities. I took an early September trip and the weather in Switzerland was in the 80’s while in the Alps of Chamonix-Blanc we had both rain and snow. The trip brought me a sense of accomplishment,, beauty on trails amazing, wonderful variety of excellent food , experiences, and accommodations. Nice to have at least one dressier tops because the top restaurants and closing dinner night.

My wife and I very much enjoyed this trip. FYI, except for one hotel, none had bar soap for shower or sink, no washcloths and only a few had cellphone plans that worked FROM Europe.

I enjoyed the variety of food, views and hikes provided during this spectacular trip to three countries near Mont Blanc. Each community was unique and interesting. Each local guide brought expert knowledge of his or her community. Our guide Christian always gave extra time to make our days complete and fun - even during free time. The hikes were generally longer than expected as were our days full. Food and camaraderie were plentiful. If you enjoy mountains, hiking, small towns and are comfortable walking uphill and down, sometimes on loose rocks, you also will likely enjoy this trip.

This program was a trip of a lifetime. The Alps were far more impressive than I thought would be possible. Transportation on buses, trains, gondolas was top notch. Instructor, Christian, was experienced, educational, caring, and funny. Our group size was perfect and we got along very well. Accommodations and food were great also.

This was a remarkable Road Scholar experience. The mountains of the Alps offer awe-inspiring views, the villages you visit are small and accessible, and the local people were terrific. Our tour leader, Carlota, was outstanding and her personality and people skills made the trip a fabulous one. The local guides were very knowledgeable and interesting and the hikes themselves were incredible. The small hotels where we stayed were so pleasant and every village was our favorite until we moved on to the next one, which then became our new favorite (Cogne, Italy, especially captured our hearts.) By the time we got to the end, I was so happy that we'd picked such a great hiking trip - it's one I will not forget.

What a great program! Every trip with Road Scholar exceeds my expectations, but this one tops them all! I cannot find the words to describe the breathtaking beauty of the Alps (it may literally take your breath away at 12,700 feet altitude!), and no camera can capture it in a picture. And what a great group of people! I was very lucky to have a very energetic roommate who made this trip even more fun. Meeting interesting people is the best part of travelling with Road Scholar. Our wonderful group leader Carlota took good care of us, and thanks to her the organization was flawless. I highly recommend this program to all hikers!

I lived in Geneva for five years (a long time ago!) but saw beautiful things and places on this trip that I had never before seen. It was truly one of the best trips ever.

This was an outstanding program that far exceeded our expectations. Before the trip, we were concerned about the difficulty of the hiking but found it to be a perfect blend of terrain and challenge to meet the varied skill levels of the group. On one day, the leader provided an option for two hike levels so that everyone could experience the hiking and enjoy the beauty of the area. The scenery was beautiful, the food was delicious and the people we traveled with enhanced our trip. Our leader, Christian, was amazing and made the trip extra special for us. This was our first Road Scholar trip but it certainly won’t be our last!

We had a wonderful hiking trip to the Alps. Our guide Marta was very enthusiastic about our activities and made any unforeseen changes to our program seem even better than the original plan! Her warm and welcoming personality as well as her attention to detail made everything run smoothly. I always knew when and where we were to meet. The hikes and views from our hotels and hikes were breathtaking. I especially liked the small mountain town feel of our stays in Switzerland and Italy. The owner of the hotel in Italy really rolled out the red carpet. I enjoyed the many modes of transportation in the mountains as well as the competent hiking/mountain guides and drivers. Looking forward to my next road scholar hiking trip!

This program was a wonderful trip hiking in small towns in Switzerland, Italy, and France around Mont Blanc. Carlota, our tour guide, was exceptional, always with us and sharing her knowledge of the area and the countries. It was breathtaking to hike in the Alps and see the glaciers in the Chamonix area.

This is a top notch program! It exceeded my expectations in so many ways from the scenery, the hikes themselves, the food and local wines, our wonderful guide extraordinaire Carlota, and our hiking group. The small villages in Italy & Switzerland were quaint, welcoming and a bit of yesteryear in a good way. The accommodations were clean, local and very European. I can't say enough good things about Carlota. She is a warm and caring person. I appreciated how she was able to line up optional extra experiences on a moment's notice as well as her honest communication about the upcoming day events, preparation and weather reports. She is a wealth of knowledge that she shared throughout the week. I had been trying to schedule this trip for over 6 years and I was not disappointed.

Superb hiking, outstanding leader (Carlota), phenomenal hotels with superior food (unexpected bonus!), good pacing. The good weather enhanced the expansive views of premier sites of the Alps.

I absolutely loved this program. Before going Switzerland was my favorite as we had been before, my new favorite is Cogne Italy, who knew. I would go a couple days early next time to be better synced with time schedule and stay a couple days later to just enjoy, one of the big expense is getting there. Several in our group did this, they had been on these before, we will next time. Happy Travels !!

Amazing!!! This trip was beyond my expectations in every way. The scenery was beautiful of course, but our guide Carlotta was above and beyond wonderful:) Our group was a great blend of people. I'm happy to say my friend(1st time Road Scholar)was so happy with the experience she is now hooked! I have been attending Road Scholar events since 2006 and this is my favorite program so far. I have many more scheduled, but this will be hard to beat. Thank you RS for living up to and beyond my expectations. Sincerely, Melinda

This trip exceeds my expectation. The scenery of the Alps along the hiking trails is just breathtaking. Also unlike my previous Road Scholar trips, the meals included in this trip are extraordinary, totally unexpected.
