This program is great for any photographer with a basic understanding of your camera. So many great photo opportunities. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable. I took the best photos of my life. The lodgings were beautiful.

Fantastic photo opportunities with knowledgable leaders. High value trip. I could not approach the quality or the convenience if planning this trip on my own.

A great way to see and learn about different areas of Costa Rica with great guides. Thank you!!

For all those, who love photography , Costa Rica should be your first adventure, This country has so much to photograph from start to finish. This was my second time to experience their photography tour, and will not be my last.

They handled all the details. I had a stress free and enjoyable trip. I would highly recommend this trip and Road Scholar in general.

Excellent choice for photographers. This well organized program will help you increase your skills if you are a beginner or advanced photographer. And the opportunity to photograph in CR will take your to amazing and truly beautiful locations. Highly recommended.

This was a wonderful trip with guides who were knowable and so very helpful. If you love nature and photography this is trip you will not want to miss.

This was my 6th Road Scholar photo program (18 RS programs in total), and definitely the best. The photo leader, Alberto, patiently guided all of us to make major improvements in our techniques, including with the difficult-to-photograph hummingbirds. What a treat to see all of the variety in photo opportunities which this excellent itinerary provided. The naturalist, Erick, knew everything about the flora and fauna, and spotted and identified things with incredible accuracy. The driver, 'Tonio, was excellent on the narrow roads which we sometimes used to get to our vantage points. This is a highly recommended trip. Some practical tips: You will be at a wide range of elevations (sea level to 11,000 feet), so plan your wardrobe accordingly to accommodate the temperature differences. The hotels ranged from basic (but clean) at Selva Verde, to upscale at Sagreve. The hotels in San Jose were mid-level tourist places. The food was good, but a bit repetitive. In spite of the literature you will receive, there is no need to bring an external flash. However, bring a huge amount of camera memory (e.g. 100-200 GB), as you will be "bursting" fast moving birds. Be sure to have at least 1-2 extra batteries. You will definitely need a good tripod, and will likely use ND filters and a polarizer. If you have a camera with interchangeable lenses, bring them all. Importantly, have some means to backup your priceless images, either to a tablet/phone, flash drives, or an external hard drive. Our group was composed of experienced amateur photographers, but even a beginner would thoroughly enjoy this program, although they should at least be familiar with their camera before attending.

This was my first Road Scholar trip and I had a blast! Even though I am married I traveled solo because my husband isn't interested in photography. I got some terrific photos, and learned skills I'll continue to use. For me the hands-on time just after how-to construction was perfect, since I tend to focus on reading about "how" rather than actually doing it. John Hendrickson was a master at giving each of us individualized attention. I liked the small group - there were ten of us - and the interactions were all positive. Highly recommended, and I'm looking to book my next photo tour with RS now.

Wonderful trip. The instructors were great and the participants were fun.

This trip to Costa Rica was my 7th trip with Road Scholar but my first trip for photography. The photo opportunities surpased my expectations. Alberto, the photo leader, did a great job of letting you know what type of shooting we were going to do and suggested equipment for each. Gilbreath, the naturalist guide, was very knowledgeable on the local flora and fauna. My main concern for this October trip was the rain. I hardly had to worry even though it's Costa Rica's wettest month. It is also the slow season and the two lodges we stayed in almost felt like we had the place to ourselves. It did rain but never for very long. Our guides were good at changing the order of activities to account for the rain. Also many of the shooting locations were sheltered from the rain. I never used my rain pants and only used my umbrella once. Mosquitos were not an issue also as I had packed some DEET. At Sarapiqui it was warmer and more humid than I was expecting, like being in Hawaii. We stayed at Selva Verde Lodge and with the ceiling fans in the spacious room it was cool enough at night to sleep without A/C. Occassional Howler monkeys and some road traffic for most of us was not an issue. Walkways were covered in case it did rain. I was able to do laundry there for $3 a pound. At San Gerardo de Dota, we were up over 7,000 feet and it was cool at night. With only a small electric heater, the first night was chilly but susbsequent nights were not as bad. Definitely glad I brough a warm coat. Food service was excellent here at Savegre Lodge. Overall this was a great trip in a beautiful country. Traveled with 9 other wonderful and friendly photographers. And I have wonderful photos to remember it by.

This tour was the best!!! I have been on 4 different Road Scholar trip. This was just awesome. The 2 leaders were amazing, so knowledgeable and helpful. It was a great group with mostly singles and one couple. This was great for all the singles present. It was a great size of 10 people.

For a photographer, this workshop offered limitless opportunities for exceptional images.

Wonderful trip - I learned a lot about photography and had many interesting photo opportunities that are not available in the US.

No matter what your skill level or sophistication of your camera, this program will permit you to grow your skills while enjoying the beauty of Costa Rica. Skillful guides ensure your experience will be an enjoyable and safe one.

An excellent photographic tour, and instruction, highly recommended.

This was a great experience that I would highly recommend to anyone, regardless of photography skill level.

The Digital Photography in Nature tour in Costa Rica was excellent--well planned and executed by the naturalist and the photographer guide. I learned so much about my camera and how to take better pictures. The food and hotels were very good and the exotic birds, frogs, etc. that we shot were so beautiful. I highly recommend this tour.

My husband and I agree, this was a fabulous trip! Lead by a Highly Skilled Naturalist Erick Guzman and an Expert Photographer Alberto Fernandez, we had a Once in a Lifetime experience! They guided us and educated us in a way that was both entertaining and inspiring! Every day was an adventure. Every day we learned something new. The size of the group was perfect, the accommodations great, the food was always delicious. Our cheerful bus driver Hector always made us feel safe. This trip will always be a happy memory for me, I'd like to do it again!

This is an excellent program for anyone interested in learning more about Costa Rica and nature photography. The level of instruction was superb and our program leader made sure our daily routines went smoothly. The program surpassed my expectations!

Digital Photography in Nature: Costa Rica was a great program for all levels of photographers. It covered various methods of taking photographs of birds, animals, and scenery. I highly recommend it.

This was an excellent learning adventure in Costa Rica in terms of photography and instruction. The environment was stunningly beautiful, and the instructors were truly top notch. However, if your only choice for air reservations is through Holbrook Travel, make your own reservations. We and several other people on the trip had a number of problems with Holbrook ... save the hassle. Now that Southwest flies to San Jose there is a reliable, dependable and reasonably-priced travel option.

If you are thinking about going ANYWHERE, let me suggest Road Scholar you will thank yourself in the end that you did, Road Scholar knows what they are doing in every way, Just DO it

This trip was absolutely amazing and I want to return to Costa Rica with Road Scholar. The instructors were knowledgeable and personable. Everything ran on time! I would recommend this trip to everyone!

I thoroughly enjoy my photography trip! I learned how to get excellent hummingbird photos and more! I was so excited to see many species of animals I did not expect. This trip was all that I expected it to be and more!

This program is a great opportunity to see flora and fauna up close and personal with very knowledgeable leaders in a beautiful country.

This trip is dream for photographers. You will find butterflies, frogs, bugs, and lots of colorful birds. The group leaders are fantastic, and will guide you all the way. The accommodations are clean, and top notch. The food is fantastic. You cannot go wrong with this trip.
